]. H. ORMISTON Editor and Manager PHONE 703 . WHITBY AND DISTRICT NEWS 4 THE DAILY TIMES-GAZETTE, Friday, April 24, 1953 One year old Nancy Lee Atkin- son, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Atkinson, Peel Street, Whitby is seen here at her charm- ing best. Nancy's grandparents Deputation Asks More Pavement In Scott Twp. | A deputation of Scott Township | residents has asked the Ontario County Council to extend its paving program in that township this year. The delegation asked that the county pave the road running from Uxbridge to Leaskdale this sum- mer although the Road Board had already planned to pave about five miles of this road. The matter, after a few heated words in coun- cil, was turned over to the Road Board again. Mr. Luke, spokesman for the de- putation, first congratulated the county for the work that had been done on this road, the seventh con- cession of the township. He asked that the road, which last year re- ceived a prime coat, be completely paved this year and mentioned that this road carried a great deal of traffic. He was followed by Mr. Archibald, Leaskdale merchant, who spoke in like vein and asked that Scott be given one piece of surfaced road. He stated that this county road was the only one in the town- ship while other townships had con- siderable county road. Reeve Duncan McIntyre, of Whit- | by, stated flatly hat Scott town- ship needed no further considera- | | tion. He pointed out that of a pav- | ing - expenditure planned for this | {year to cost $100,000, the seventh |concession was to have $21,500 {spent on it. This remark drew fire | from Reeve Ferguson, of Uxbridge, | who showed that this amount would {not all be spent in Scott since the | road begins in Uxbridge. Reeve | Thaxter again entered the debate | {by stating that the Department of | {Highways had stockpiled the grav- | {el for the mulch surface treatment | {and it hdd not yet been used. "I| don't know," he said, 'whether I| | could blame the Department for | cutting down road budgets if we | waste money like that." Engineer Sims pointed out that there were 173 miles of unpaved county roads in the county and that | this road could only be paved if | the county was willing to pay 100 | {per cent of the cost. On motion | {Reeve McIntyre, the mattar was turned over to the road board.
