The speaker, Dr. Allan Munro, secretary of the Home Mission Board of the Presbyterian Church a, was graciously intro- duced by the president, Mrs. James Cormack. Dr. Munro chose as his his subject, "Concept of a Christian Canadian" He referred to the signing of the Magna Charta and reviewed early Canadian History mentioning the various fundamental stepping stones through to the BNA Act of 1867 that established for Canada freedom and a sound government, and which today we should cherish at a heritage that has been hand- ed down to us by a God-fearing people. "War," said Dr. Munro, "is a breakdown of moral character." |t; Since the last war Canada has lost her sense of personal rela- tionship with God. The church at- tendance of last Easter was the greatest in the history of Canada but the people generally have lost that concept of Christianity that comes from the revelation of spirit and of inheritance. Canada was referred to as a melting pot with many problems to face. 1. Before the last war, 65 per- | cent of our population was rural but today 67 per cent is urban. 2. The vast immigration to our | land is bringing with it a variety | of cultures that must be recogniz- | ed and adjusted with that of our own, 3. The English language will be | adopted by some, but the French! language will remain and our work amongst the French speaking peo- ple must be through the medium of their own tongue. 4, There is a great need for | making possible a higher grade of Stiication for the Indian popula- on.
