Agencies In Argentine Suspended BUENOS AIRES (CP)-The com- munications licenses of three United States news agencies were suspended Tuesday by the Argen- line ministry of communications. The action was taken in antici- pation of the findings of a congres- sional committee named to inves- tigate the activities of The Asso- ciated Press, The International News Service and The United Press. It put to an end reception by the three wire services of news dispatches from abroad, leaving Argentine newspapers dependent for world-wide news coverage on Reuters, and government services, The Peronista regime has been launching an attack on the Amer- ican news agencies for what is Agence France Presse called a malicious campaign against the Argentine people. Tuesday's action was little more than a formality since few papers here continued to publish des- patches by the AP, INS and UP after President Peron ordered them investigated on May 1. Egypt Fixes Deadline For British Departure CAIRO (AP) -- Lt.-Col. Gamel Nasser, chief of staff to Pemier Naguib, said Wednesday that unless Britain evacuates the Suez canal zone within two or three months the temper of the Egyptian people will not even allow the existence of the base. This is the first time Egypt has given any hint of a deadline for evacuation. Abdel Nasser, 35, a leading fig- ure in Naguib's government, "said neither statements by Prime Min- ister Churchill nor the visit here of U.S. State Sécretary John Fos- ter Dulles would have any effect on the increasingly critical Suez situation so long as British troops remain there. Abdel Nasser gave his views in an interview with Alexander Mac- Donald, Editor of the Bangkok Post, who is visiting Cairo. Abdel Nasser discounted Suez as a defence base. He said there is nothing in the way of a defence line to halt an enemy such as Rus- fla from Zl eeping down through ran and Iraq and into Egypt and taking over the base. Russia, he added, might do this in a matter of 15 days. "The installations themselves are merely a rear supply base," he declared, saying that the Arab nations are pepared to raise 16 divisions to aid in defence of the area. Naturally, he said, these must be integrated with "other forces." These he did not define, but it was assumed he meant only Western forces. He said it is "too early yet to talk of a defence community in the Middle East so long as Britain remains in the area." Ambassador Talks With Russ Minister MOSCOW (Reuters) -- United States Ambassador Chawles Bohlen said today he had a 20-minute talk with Foreign Minister Vyacheslav Molotov Tuesday on "certain con- crete questions' pending between the two countries. The British ambassador, Sir Al- vary Gascoigne, saw Molotov April 11 to discuss "outstanding Anglo- Soviet matters." THE DAILY TIMFS-GAZETTE, Thursday, May 14, 1953 38 Charges Britain With Policy of Appeasement WASHINGTON (AP) -- Senator william Knowland (Rep. Calif.) declared today that if Britain in- sists on an appeasement settle- ment with the Communists, the United States must be "prepared to go it alone" in Korea. Knowland, chairman of the Sen- ate Republican policy committee, said in a prepared speech that it would be a tragic mistake for the United Nations to accept Red pro- posals to turn over to give "neut- ral" nations those prisoners of war who dont' want to go home. The Californian attacked the pos- itions taken in the House of Com- mons by Winston Churchill Clement Attlee during debate there | on Korea. Attlee called Tuesday for | a United Nations security council | seat for Red China. "Not while the | actual fighting is going on," broke | in Churchill, and Attlee agreed: "No, soon after the armistice." "What in effect Mr. Churchill | |i ing to clarify or modify the pro- posal to maintain the principles for which' we have suffered 135.000 casualties in the nast 22 years. "In effect, what they have told us is that if we do not accept their advice and the Chinese Com- munists persist in the war we must be prepared to 'go it alone.' So be i." ' RE OPTICAL 6. T.
