Celebrations held in conjunction th the annual exhibition mark the half-century of progress in which jt has grown from a raw frontier town to a green oasis, 1asavus for its tree-lined streets and many parks. Each. night at the current ex- hibition, a special show portrays some of the main events in in_the city's history, the granting of a charter, the ruinous 1912 cyclone, the influx of immigrants after the First World War and the depres- sion of the 1930s.
