New, individualistic designs have replaced old designs, imported from Europe by early French settlers. Canadian architects - and Canadian materials have been used to erect churches the design of which would probably have shocked the builders of earlier places of worship. The early settlers built their churches along lines of two designs popular in the 17th and 18th cen- tury. Now, no set pattern is fol- lowed.
