James Majority Is Fixed At 130 BOWMANVILLE --Harried poll- ing officers were still trying to de- termine Liberal re-elected candi- date Johnny James' majority at 2 p.m. yesterday afternoon. Re-elec- tion was definite, but by exactly how many votes was the question. Further revision and tabulation re- corded a new official majority of 158, rather than 91, which was list- ed by Returning Officer Erdman Friesen of Port Hope at 2 am. yesterday morning as the offices closed after a frantic night of re- turn seeking. The night of the election, an un- official listing of Liberal commit- tee workers here, gave James a 126 vote lead over Conservative Charles Stephenson, which was re- ducd to 91 later. Yesterday morning a revitalized crew attacked the returns again, and afternoon bulletins fluctuated slightly from time to time, before settling on what they hoped was a final Liberal majority of 158. All of which proves that any- thing might happen at election time, and it's never too late to in- dulge in a bit of fingernail biting.
