The technical aviation publica- tion said some of the most import- ant bases are in the Riga area of the former Baltic state of Latvia. It said installations at Gipka and on the islands in the Bay of Riga are aimed at the north Swedish mining centre of Kiruna. The magazine also réported that: Numerous bases along the Lith- uanian coast and on the peninsula jutting out from the Kalingrad area are all aimed apparently either at Sweden or out over the Baltic. Bases still under construction farther to the west, mostly on Rugen Island, are aimed at Den- mark's Bornholm Island, athwart the entrapte to the Baltic. Some ,bases, including those at Koberg-Deep and Henken-Hagen, have experimental firing ranges extending all the way to Saaremaa Island off the Estonian coast, about 400 miles. These missiles, launched in the opposite direction,. could reach the Ruhr industrial region of West Germany.
