EDITH PEARS Corres . Williamson Was elected to act as chairman for the evening. A synopsis of the treasurer's re- port was as follows: The original cost of the Bay Road School was $47,400. The interest and principal paid during the years of 1952 and 1953 was $7,188. (Of course a lot of this goes to pay the interest.) The debenture on the Bay Road School at the close of 1 was $46,142. The cost of the addition and re- modelling of the Base Line School was $12,808.45. The overhead ex- penses for the upkeep of the two schools for heat, light, teachers' salaries and general maintenance, etc., for 1953 were" $26,884.71. The trustees have been looking roperty at Glenview Road and highway Number 2 for a school site as it is necessary to build a school in that area and it is expected the school board and ratepayers will be having a meeting the near future to discuss the purchase of this property. Mrs. Eileen Fertile gave a fav- orable report on the 1953 annual school convention and was appoint- ed to represent school section Num- ber 2 at the 1954 convention. The school board was asked to consider a longer lunch period for the children of the Bay Road School. At present they are. allow- ed one hour and with cold weather here and the walking at times none too good the parents feel the chil- dren need one hour and a quarter to one hour and a half as some of the children have a long way to walk and the parents feel the chil- dren need a hot meal at noon time, even more so during the win- ter months. The school board was to discuss the matter with the teacher and give it their conider- | ation, | J. Gorton was elected by acclam- {ation to fill the vacancy left on |the school board by Mr. Frank | White who has retired after a long and faithful service as a trustee and chairman of the board. As Mr. White has no child attending | the school now he thought it better | someone with school-aged children fill his place. A vote of appreciation was ex- | tended to the retiring Mr. White | for faithful services rendered. | The overcrowded cendition of the | Bay Road School was brought to |the attention of the school board ! and it was recommended the trus- tees and ratepayers call a meet- |ing to discuss the general situation | and consider additions to the Bay | Road School. The parents asked that a cinder th be put in on the Bay Road | between the school and the hous- |ing section. This too is to be dis- | cussed with the ratepayers. This |is something that is badly needed | especially when the weather is bad and the roads are slippery. If this is accomplished it may save a e life. There was a very poor attend- ance at this meeting and it is hop- ed that more people will attend these meetings in the future and find out for themselves what is going on regarding the educational problems in our community. RINK LIGHTED : It is nice to see electric lights at the skating rink on the bay. The heads of our Ratepayers Associa- tion got together and started the New Year off with a big bang by putting lights on the bay so the children and grownups could enjoy skating. Everyone feels this is a Frenchman's Bay and something that has long been needed. With the full co-oper- ation of the Pickering Township police there have been two sections on the bay set aside for skating and hockey and the children an grownups alike are enjoying it to the full.
