'They were years of hard work, determination and pro- gress. Seventy-five of these years are marked by the gold wrist-watches worn by three of the six, who saw the re- sults of their endeavours today when the new enlarged store was opened by Herbert J. Cook, the vice-president of the Company. RAPID PROMOTION Boy wanted for stock-room. 80 hour week, Sundays off. $4 a week, good pects. Mr. Bartlett first joined the com- pany as a boy in 1911, working in the stockroom of 'the London branch, He started at 7.30 in the morning in those days, and those n lasted 12 or 14 hours. It was hard work for $4 a week, but Mr, Bartlett thinks he got better then than he would on equivalent wage today. The store, he remembers, had ood departments in the MRS. MARGUERITE SKUCE as as a stockman. A year later he moved on to Woodstock where he worked in a similar capacity, It was this year, 1914, that he made break, apart from war service, in his connection with the company. He spent six months on in then went He worked there for two years as a stockman before transferrin to Sault Ste, Marie where he ful- filled the duties of stockman, j=. itor and any other position where his services were required.
