They eliminated Claremoat in the first round and the scored an upset by conquering league-leading Oshawa Polonia 1-0 in the semi-final. A check of the league stand- ings would place the Strila club as overwhelming favourite to cop the handsome trophy but past re- cords mean little in a knock-out cup game, as Oshawa Polonia ex- d- | perienced in its game with Be- ks. In the event that the clubs are tied at the end of regulation time the clubs will turn around and play 15 minute periods, with the first goal deciding the contest. THE DAILY TIMES-GAZETTE, Mondey, August 35, 1906 9 SPORTS ROUNDUP Chicago White Sox May Decide Which Team Will Win Svar NEW YORK (AP)---In trying to decide at this point whether Cleve- land Indians or New York Yan- kees are destined to enter the World Series on Sept. 29, it be- comes necessary to take a long look at Chicago White Sox. The Sox by this time must have realized they are not going to win the American League race, The best that manager Paul Richards' ensemble can hope for is to win a special award as the best third- Pace ball club in the history of e junior circuit, a June 1 the Sox were running 3 tight second, only a single game hind the Indians. Since then they ii sustained a winning average of well over .600, a gait that would have been good 'enough to win the flag some Jers, but they find themselves looking on. MAY GET MEAN When a thing such as that hap- pens to a set of men they are ikely to 2 mean and want to take it out on someone, and it is for this reason that we feel it necessary to try to figure out what the Sox are likely to do during the next six weeks, and to whom. They are going to decide the pennant race, it seems here, To begin with, Chicago has six more games to play with Cleve. land and only three more whacks at the Yankees. Three of thelr con- tests with the Indians will ceme in the final week, That series figures to put a terrific strain on the Tribe if the race still is close. The White Sox now are ahead of Cleveland over the season, having won nine of their 16 engagements. In fact, Richards' boys are in the black against every team in the league except the Yankees who have clobbered them 13 times in 19 tries. COULD DO DAMAGE So it appears to be that the Sox stand to do more damage to the Indians than to the Yankees in the the wire. is no reason to suggest that the Sox will be any easier for the Indians to beat in mainin were In addition to their three in the final week against the Sox the In- dians also will face three with the fourth-place Detroit Tigers, who have given them more than a little trouble up to here.
