CHILD GUIDANCE By G. CLEVELAND MYERS Most children will be glad to go back to school, and most who will begin school in September hopefully look forward to it as a great adventure, A a rule, pupils returning to school who last year enjoyed suc- cess at books and at getting along with their teachers and school- mates will be the most eager to resume. What about those who: were lag- gards at lessons? Suppose one of these children is yours. You may do more than anybody else to help him face the new year hopetally, You won't, of course, remind him of his un- favorable past school grades, or warn him that he will have to buckle down to work harder. You won't bring up such matters. If he does, you will assure him that you will try to find ways to help him enjoy more success this next year, PRACTICAL HELP If you have not already done so, you might try to find out from his former teachers what his learn- ing difficulties are and seek their advice on ways to help him in the coming school year. And when he does® begin school, you will try to provide him with a companionable, understandi happy home atmosphere. You will listen attentively as he relates his school experiences. BARRIE Women JO ALDWINCKLE WOMEN'S EDITOR DIAL 3-3474 |Severe Simplicity, Elegance of Line Are Keynotes of Wardrobe for Tour 'By MURIEL Jnoieso London, (CP) -- The Duchess of Kent and Princess Alexandra have chosen a streamlined wardrobe. to meet the demands of their three-|3 week Canadian tour. Fashions which combine space- saving qualities, hot weather pro- tection and quick changing con- venience Predominate in the Royal luggage. Light summer wear far out-numbers the bulkier glamor gowns. And both the Royal travellers have packed what the designer Jerms their "square-dancing'" out- its The Duchess, one of the world's best-dressed women, has chosen at least a dozen short bouffant evening gowns and most of her long dresses, devoid of embroid- ery, depend for beauty on un- crushable skirts and pack into small space. Even a ball gown from John Cavanagh was chosen with an eye to saving space. It is of white lace, heavily embroidered in white coral and rhinestones with simple princess lines. The embroidery is thick on the bodice but thins to a scattered motif on the skirt. A sweetheart neckline is softly swathed in a fichu of white or- ganza. A dream dress for 17-year-old Princess Alexandra is on white or- gandie with white thread-work ivy leaves. The long skirt, with four gathered panels spouting from high on the hipline, will tuck into a small space. A ball dress made from 100 yards of white tulle is also built for streamlined pack- Eg. . ar outfit most Canadian wom- a probably will envy is, a white ot lace dress for late-afternoon wear designed by Norman Hart- nell for the Duchess. 'Severe simplicity and elegance of line are the keynote of all the tour styles. Most of e ' Duchess' cotton gowns are big-skirted and neat- waisted. Typical is a white and navy spot poplin with four un- ressed pleats in front and a half- ie belt. The neck is a shallow round with cap sleeves and navy pipipg. A black cotton, trellis-checked in white hemstitching, was chosen by the Duchess for "square dancing." The wide gathered skirt has matching skirt topped by a white bodice with wide V-neck picked out in black. Princess Alexandra chose a multi-colored cotton with green and red harlequin check, un- pressed pleats, cummerbund and Zeranjum top with similar neck- ine. Other Royal styles include a princess-line coat for Alexandra in slate-blue 'silk grosgrain. Bal- loon sleeyes emerge from 'a low shoulder 'and narrow to three- quarter length. In the past, women troubled with a fuzz on their chin or lip have been forced to resort to bleaches or painful waxing to remove or dis- guise facial hair. Now, a pleasant, rasy to use, lightly rose-scented depilatory is expressly made for safe use on the face. Effective in a matter of minutes, it rémoves all traces of unsightly hair. It is so safe that it is recommended by leading dermatologists. 46 SIMCOE ST. N does wonders LIQUID Jor your skin SPECIALS FOR AUG. 26, 27, 28 Pattern Dept., Oshawa, Ontario.
