When faced with solid fact that you really should take off some weight, you Jeuiully recall the time you tried dieting. You felt simply wretched. . . . ner- vous, cross, weak . . . not like yourself at all. Finally your hus- band put his foot down and in- sisted you go back - sensible eating and stop all that nonsense. That brief brush with diet con vinced you that reducing is un- healthy . . . and that dieting is not for you. Like as not, you sur-- prised your husband that night with apple ow dowdy, whipped cream and all. . Alas, you jumped to the wrong conclusion. What you should have gotten out of that experience is that a semi starvation diet is not for you, or for anyone else. The result is always the same, weak- ness, lethargy, fatigue . . . and a quick return to fattening des- serts. Make no mistake, if you are tot- ing excess pounds you would feel better at normal weight. But you can never become healthily slim by the starvation plan. What do you want out of a diet? Less weight, to be sure, but more than that . . . you want better health and increased strength instead weakness. Then analyze what kind of diet would do that for you. and follow ft. You get out of the three meals exactly what you put into them. . 4 If you've never tried eating to slim down, there's a pleasant sur- prise in store. You can lose two pounds a week and have more energy, not less. Regardless of what you arg trying to do about your weight, the backbone of every Healthy Dieting menu should be protein. So the start is to build each meal around a complete protein food -- eggs, cl , milk, lean meat or fish or fowl. These foods provide répair material needed to make good the daily wear and tear. The regulat- ing minerals and vitamins are also essential in the daily menus. These are furnished by day prod-- ucts, vegetables, fruits and whole grains. These protective foods add up to health and strength. Luckily for overwe , all the essentials can be included within reducing calorie limits, which makes reducing safe. Here is a sample energy diet for reducing. Color Schemes Hold Interest In New Showings By ELEANOR ROSS Color is king at an exhibition of seven model rooms, one set of schemes being done in a muted, but subtle, set of colors, the other owing much to sharp, brilliant ac- cents. All the backgrounds are either beige or white, the beige usually a creamy pale tone. This is seen in a bedroom which as floor cov- ering and spreads in the same subdued but beautiful tone. Here the accent is a deep, rich purple, used in velvet to upholster a long settee and a small stool. The purple appears again in the rint draperies, and novel draper- es they are, too. At either side of the window is a tall two-panel screen covered with the print, and so placed as to simulate straight draperies. The Italian provincial furniture is handsome fruitwood. Dull brass circles are set into headboards and used for rings serving as drawer pulls, A living-dining room has beige rass paper for wall covering, and ige for the textured carpeting as well as for the rich silk win- dow draperies. A creamy beige is used for couch and easy chair up- holstery. The dining chair seats are done in purple. Two influences, the Italian and the Oriental, pervade another dis- play. One of the most handsome rooms in the five-room group is a dining room furnished with an Italian in- terpretation of French Directoire. The room takes its color scheme from some exquisite Italian paint- ings used in the room. The walls are done in a most unusual blush pink, and taken from the picture, too, is the soft yet lively lilac blue of the rug, draperies and chair seats. FRUITWOOD FURNITURE : Table and chairs are in fruit- wood, and there is a fruitwood d that is y gh, with good, straight lines, brass- trimmed. There is a vin that strikes an interesting colored leather, trimmed tricatel ware. brides.
