Port have .500 record an accurate passing play from Alaina Davis to Nicole Virtue who led Julia perfectly. Once again, Oshawa took the lead. This time it was Stacey Cunn- ingham, playing her best game of the season, passing to Janna Ostafichuk feeding Miranda Burgess who found the net while taking a heavy fall. Oshawa again took the lead 3-2. It didn't take Sarah Verschuuren long attacking as a red stick to find Stacey who drilled a wrist shot to even the score as the first period ended. Nicole finally gave Port the lead when Alaina Burger moved the ring up quickly to Miranda, on to Nicole and slam, it was past the Oshawa goalie. Oshawa came right back to tie it up 4-4. The Eaglettes spent most of the game in the Oshawa end and Leanne Davison found the corner on a pretty pass from Nicole. Stacey's second goal (her first two goal game) gave Port some breathing room on a quick lead pass from Julia. Oshawa quickly narrowed the gap and Port's lead was a precarious 6-5. With just under a minute remaining Oshawa tied the score and the .500 record remains in tact. Sunday's game saw Port hosting Whitby No. 2. Again, the Eaglettes fell behind early on a pair of soft shots that fooled Alicia Burgess. The XL Gas Bar girls seemed to put it in gear at this point when Alaina Davis fed Stacey, Stacey found Julia to get Port started. Struggling all weekend to find the right combination the Eaglettes fell behind 3-1, before Miranda put Port within striking distance on a three- way passing play with Janna and Melissa Hooker. The second period ended with Port behind 4-2 with Whitby getting the first goal of the second period to stretch their lead to 5-2. Melissa, who missed Saturday's game, restarted the game of catch- up on a precision pass from Stacey. On her next shift, Melissa picked up her second goal on another three- way passing play. This time the Leanne's (Layzell and Davison) got assists. Once again Whitby opened a two goal lead before Leanne Davison set up Julia for her second of the game. Whitby stretched their lead to 7-5. Melissa completed the hat trick shortly after Port survived a penal- ty when Melissa and Julia teamed up with 1:27 to play. A late miscue on a free pass in Whitby's end by Port relievea tne pressure from the visitors and the game long comeback fell short. Only two players did not make the score sheet this weekend. Every team needs steady defensive red sticks to allow the attack to move forward. Although Katherine Cooke and Amy Weber did not make the score sheet their reliable contribu- tion cannot be overlooked. Keep up the excellent work Katherine and Amy, you are vital to the team's growing success. Get ready for next weekend players and parents. We play Whit- by No. 1, Forest and host, Oshawa in their tournament. Your exciting play should keep your parents on the edge of their seats.
