Blackstock artist to hold solo show in Pickering If a picture paints 1,000 words, Donna Griffin-Smith has completed numerous essays on 'how I spent my summer va- cation." Mrs. Griffin-Smith, a Black- stock-area artist, has been painting for 12 years. Her favorite medium is wa- tercolors and her favorite sub- Jects are places that she has vis- ited. "I've done a lot of paintings of places I've been," she says. "I take a lot of photos and they be- come my inspiration or starting point for a piece of work." With the proper training, she thinks she could be a good pho- tographer. "I'm always framing up a potential painting," she says of her photography. Her job as a teacher at S. A. Cawker Public School keeps her pretty busy during the school year. "It seems the summer is the only time I get a chance to paint anymore." When she does get the chance, she has her photos to draw herinspiration from. As well as painting pictures of places she's been, Mrs. Griffin- Smith enjoys doing close-ups of wildflowers and birds. She has participated in many solo and group exhibitions, as well asjuried shows. Her next solo show opens March 2 at the Pickering Cen- tral Library where she will have about 20 of her pieces on display until March 28.
