The event, sponsored by Can- ada/Ontario Agricultural Em- ployment Committee, will take place on Wednesday, March 25 at the Nestleton Community Centre. The meeting will touch on a variety of topics concerning farm labor. The day begins at 9:45 a.m. with registration. At 10 a.m. the first speaker is Ken Knox, assistant deputy minister, agricultural and rural services, for the Ontario Minis- try of Agriculture and Food. He will speak on the topic of atti- tudes and effective motivation. Mr. Knox has been with the OMATF since 1966 in various ca- pacities, and he now oversees seven branches: agricultural representatives, plant indus- try, animal industry, farm as- sistance programs, rural organ- izations and services, land use planning and resources man- agement. He has also been involved in dairy and cash crop farming his entire life in the Enniskillen area. At 11 a.m., the guest speaker will be Dr. Anthony Fuller, speaking on the topic of "Agri- cultural Adjustment: Farm families and the stay option." Dr. Fulleris a professorin the University of Rural Planning and Development at the Univer- sity of Guelph. He graduated from the University of Hull, England with a Ph.D. in Agri- cultural Geography and joined the University of Guelph in 1969. He was Director of Rural Development Outreach Project from 1976-82. Bryan Davies, local lawyer and avid long distance runner, placed firstin the world champi- onship race in Lafayette, Loui- sianaon March 4. Mr. Davies competed in the super heavyweight division, for competitors weighing more than 200 pounds. He led the 600-person field from start to finish, completing the five-mile course in 28.04. Police officer charged with break, enter A 22-year veteran of the Met- ropolitan Toronto Police Force has been arrested in connection with a break and enter in Can- nington. According to Durham Region- al Police, they received an alarm from Ben's Pharmacy in Cannington at approximately 2 a.m. on March 12. Neighbors also heard the sounds of break- ing glass and were able to pro- vide police with a description of the vehicle and a partial license plate number. Police later stopped the 1989 Ford Tempo heading south on Highway 12 in Greenbank and found a quantity of cigarettes. Robert Reynolds, 43, a vete- ran police officer from Willow - dale, and Franz Wieltchmigg, 18, of Willowdale, have been charged with break, enter and theft, and possession of stolen property.
