"A Family Tradition for 125 Years" Pineridge Atom Bs play in Pepsi tourney The Pineridge Sports Atom B team crossed the Canada- U.S.A. border at noon on Friday and headed to Holiday Rinks for their first game in this "Pepsi" tournament. The boys met up on the ice with a team from Pennsylvania with a handshake and ex- change and of pins and then the game was underway. There was no question as to where this game was headed as only a minute into the game Dave Gainey scored, assisted by Scott Sanderson. Then Scott closed out the first period with a goal assisted by linemates Ian and Adam. Great positional play kept Port on top throughout the en- tire game. Port dominated the second period as well as cashing in with five more goals. The third period continued to see plenty of action with some great passing moves taking in three more goals to total 10 goals. Jon Chambers and Shane Savage shared the shutout. Scoring for Port was Scott with three goals, one assist, Dave Gainey two goals, Greg Bru two goals, one assist, Nick Pelyk and Ryan McQuade one goal, one assist each. Brad Monsma, Adam Hobbs, Chris Jones two assits each, Ian Par- liament, Aaron Chambers and Adam Hobbs one assist each. Scott Sanderson was named M.V.P. On Saturday, Port faced off against a team from Fulton, New York. Port found out right away that this team was going to test all of Port's strength. Port's de- fense and goalies were called upon constantly to make the saves as pressure was applied. Fulton's defense was extremely tight as Port tried to break through the line to test the goal- ie. A good effort was put in by Port but Port went down to de- feat as Fulton took the game home with a score of 5-0. Scott Sanderson was again rewarded for his great effort in this game ashe was named M.V.P. On Sunday morning Port was all fired up to meet a very near and dear rival Belleville. Both teams put on a great display of hockey and was their tightest game in this tourney. The score remained at 0-0 until midway through the second when Ian Parliament scored with Adam Hobbs assisting. Port's goalie Shane Savage made several great saves as Belleville put trays of various cuts of meat. Shane to the test several times. Defense tightened up as Brian McCready, Chambers and Moynes sent Belleville back into their own zone. Port's of- fense took this opportunity and scored their second goal when Ryan McQuade went in all alone. The frame ended 2-0 in favor of Port. The ice was cleared, the Zamboni went to work and Port had their final pep talk. Third period saw Chambers in net and a very ag- gressive Belleville team beat the defense , found the top cor- ner and Belleville was in the game. They continued to apply pres- sure and forced Chambers to make the saves as Port's de- fense started to scramble and were unable to take control. The play began to go end to end as both teams wanted this game to their credit. It was Greg Bruton who finally found the mesh on a great line effort with McQuade and Jones assisting. Port stood firm as Belleville pulled their goalie in favor of the extra at- tacker. Every effort was made to fend off this attack as Belleville dom- inated the entire last minute of play. When the final buzzer sounded, Port had hung on to their 3-1 win. M.V.P. was Shane Savage. Great game boys! The team had two wins and one loss. This found Port just shy of the points needed to go onto the championship game. It was a great weekend. The coaching staff would like to thank the players, parents and the Port Perry Minor Hock- ey for the opportunity to coach this fine group of boys. IGA Juniors are 401 champs Sunday proved to be an exciting day for the IGA Junior 'B' ringette team. The girls had their final game against the Scarborough Juniors and knew they had a tough fight on their hands, having lost two games to this team during the season. As the saying goes, "when the going gets tough, the tough get going" and that's exactly what this team did, as they won 4-2. As is the rule, if there must be a change in uniform color then it is the expectancy of the visiting team to do so. Our girls had to wear the Pineridge Sports uniforms but they were IGA girls to the end! Sarah Coyne earned a hat trick with assists from these three goals from Lindsey Patton, Lynda Payne and Bonnie-Jo Norton. The final goal of the game came from Kyla McCrae who was fed the ring from Vicki Stainton. With Lisa Dodd in the penalty box for the final two minutes of the game the team played hard to keep the ring away from their end zone. Heather Lally, off with a broken collar bone, was on the bench cheer- SPORTS NEWS SPORTS PHOTOS SPORTS WRITE-UPS When your club or team is in need of additional publicity, photographs etc. Contact Kelly at the Port Perry Star - 985-7383 ing her team on to victory. Julie Ball was celebrating her 15th birthday and had the honor of only one penal- ty - for interference. This game possessed all the excitement of a MoJack game and more. Amy Sinclair played in net and displayed her talents magnificent- ly. Scarborough gave her many tough moments but Amy never gets down against any odds. Thanks goes to Bonnie-Jo Norton and Lynda Payne for 'coming up' to play in this game. Deanna Demp- sey, Jenna Norton and Lisa Dodd all played an active part in this game. Let's face it, the entire team did a super display of how ringette is to be played. After the game the parents and players met at Country Style Donuts in Whitby. Coach Dan Lally, with plaque in hand, congratulated the team on a job well done. Then, to Colin and Maureen Dodd's surprise, he presented the couple with this plaque, a gift from the parents and players, which engraved says "Con- gratulations on becoming Canadian citizens." Colin and Maureen had recently become Canadian citizens and everyone wanted to share this special moment with them. The regionals are this weekend and the girls will have their share of games, playing in Beaverton, Sunderland and Cannington. Good luck girls, and congratulations on being the 401 League Junior B champs. : SCUGOG ARENA has a RED HOT offer on ice. Prime Time ice available at 5 0" off our regular rates.
