Pee Wee MoJacks in tourney action The Port Perry MoJacks Pee Wee rep baseball team trav- elled to Cobourg on June 13 to participate in their first tourna- ment of the season. The Modack boys opened things up against Napanee and quickly fell be- hind by five runs after only two innings. The Modacks then settled down and started to play some solid ball. Mat Kay was on the mound for the MoJacks and was holding Napanee at bay but the MoJack batters just couldn't get things going. Finally in the fifth inning the ModJacks got their break as Ryan Williamson got on by an error. This seemed to rattle the Napanee pitcher as he walked Mat Kay, Tom Cham- bers and Owen St. John all in succession. Now with one run in Jeff Clarke and Darryl Moase hit back to back singles to knock in two more runs then a ground out by Jason Logan and all of a sudden it's 5-4 but then the wheels fell off so to speak and Napanee picked up three more runs to close the game with an 8-4 win for Napanee. The ModJacks second game of the tournament was against Bramalea and they wasted no time in jumping out front as leadoff batter Jeff Clarke hit a homer deep to left centre field to give the MoJacks a 1-0 lead af- terone inning. The second inning had Jason Best getting things going as he 9-10 Mites In 9-10 Mite action Flieler's Petro-Can defeated Brian's Towing 11-10. It was a fast and furious match. In the bottom of the first, Brian's found themselves down 9-2 but hard work and great team effort brought themup to 11-10in the final in- ning. Good pitching by Tyler Hou- thuys in the second and Billy Carr who struck out three of four batters in the fifth. Two great catches were made in the fourth by third baseman Robert Arskey and Stephan Senyk brought two home with a nice hit. Keep up the good work Brian's Towing. got on, stole second and went to third on a ground out. Darryl Moase now walked with two out and Jason Logan stepped up to the plate. Jason promptly homered deep to left field to put the ModJacks up by a 4-0 count. Bramalea got one run back in their half of the second to make it a 4-1 score. The score stayed this way until the fourth inning when the MoJacks picked up two more runs off of some good hitting and base run- ning by Jeff Clarke, Darryl Moase and Jason Logan. This gave the MoJacks a 6-1 lead. ModJacks pitcher Tim Fitzpa- trick was pitching a super game staying out of trouble as things went on. Bramalea got to the Modacks in their last at bats as Tim began to tire and after a couple of errors all of a sudden the score is now 6-3. Mat Kay came on in relief but Bramalea kept the pressure on and with one swing of the bat the score is all tied up at six a piece. The Mo- Jacks hung on to finish the game up with a 6-6 tie. The ModJacks third game of the day was against Trenton. Things started out rough for the ModJacks as Ryan Williamson was hit by a pitch in the first in- ning and had to leave the game. The ModJacks seemed more determined in this game as they were out front of Trenton by a score of 3-1 after four innings. Mat Kay was on the mound for the MoJacks and was pitching a fantastic game and his defence behind him were helping out as well. Then as Mat batted in the fifth inning he was hit in the forearm by a pitch and he's out of the game. Tim Fitzpatrick came in to pitch in Mat's place but Trenton quickly jumped on him for three runs to go out front by a 4-3 score. The MoJacks came back to take a 5-4 lead but Trenton managed four more of their own to take the game by an 8-4 mar- gin. Doing the hitting for the MoJacks were Brad Morton with a long homer, two singles each by Tim Fitzpatrick and Ja- son Best and singles by Jason Logan, Ryan Hawkins and Dar- ryl Moase. Between the MoJacks second and third games there was the Golden Glove competition with each team entering one player to field ground balls with a large trophy at stake for whom ever could field the grounders with- out making an error. Jason Lo- gan was the ModJacks entry and in baseball termanology showed what soft hands he has as he went flawless through the competition and won the tro- phy. Congratulations Jason, well done. The Modacks have been struggling through their season so far but now seem to be start- ing to come together as a team. The ModJacks next game is Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. against Richmond Hill on the south main diamond. sikkens AUTHORIZED DEALER STE Cetol TGL Plus For Exterior Doors and Windows Extremely resistant to - the sun's ultraviolet rays water repellant, it provides everday Ee IIEISSN protection and long C OO» term preservation of Serena) © xtorior wood doors and windows.
