PORT PERRY STAR - Wednesday, August, 5, 1992 - 19 Annual barbecue 'Was a SUcCess, despite weather a te Sy Eh ER AK EK Greenbank News by Helen McKeon Rain, rain, rain, but we can report the Greenbank Barbecue was a huge success in spite of the weather! The workers who planned and worked so hard are to be commended for their hard work. It really was a great deal more work, having to set up the tables, both in the church and Greenbank Hall. All of our guests said how delicious the beef was. The servings went very well in trying to keep eve- ryone served. More than 900 people enjoyed our 1992 barbe- cue. Again thanks to everyone who put forth the extra effort, even if it did rain. Ladies, your pies were delicious as usual. Guests last week with Iva and Fred Phoenix were Andy and Dot Pourore of Thornlae, Ontario. Also Marie and Bernie Basher of Calgary were guests for the weekend with the Phoe- nix family. Mrs. Judy Gibson and girls visited in Chelsey, Nova Scotia with her parents Mr. and Mrs. Gilmore. We are happy they ar- rived home safely! The community was sad- dened to learn of the death of Mrs. Eileen Shier of Sunder- land. She was a well loved teacher at Greenbank Public School for many years. Even af- ter her retirement she came back to work in the school li- brary. She was a life-long mem- ber of the Women's Institute, holding an office there most dof her life. That is how I met her, at Institute. She was a gracious lady and will be missed not only by her family but by all those students she came to know at Greenbank Public School. Zero Garbage and P.E.S.T. (Preserve the Environment of Scugog Township} are holding a fundraising dance at the Scu- gog Arena on Saturday, Aug. 15. Music will be provided by Midnight Al and the Raging Bu- tanes, a nine piece 60s rhythm and blues band. Sounds like fun!
