Bantams tied in playoff series On Aug. 4, Campbellford travelled to Port Perry to play their first game of the OASA Zone Championship and the se- ries is a two out of three with the winner advancing to the OASA Championship Tourna- mentin Fxeter, Ontario on Aug. 22 and 23. Mike Underwood started on the mound and struck out the second and third batter with a runner on second and the third out was a grounder to second baseman Dave B. to Jason and in Port's half our only hit came from Joe when he singled and we were unable to score him. Mike and Port's defense kept Campbellford off the scoresheet from the second to the fifth in- ning with Mike striking out five and two fly out one by Dave B. Joe and tag outs at first, sec ond, third and force play at sec- ond and home. Port finally got on the scoresheet in the fourth inning when Mike and B.J sin- gled and Chad also singled scor- ing Mike and with BJ at third, Jason's fly out brought him home and after four, Port was up 2-0. To begin the fifth, Paul had a lead off triple, Joe walked and Bill's triple scored both run- ners and Chad scored Bill on a Eliminated Campbellford two straight Legion Squirts earn berth in the All-Ontario finals Port Perry's all-star Squirt team earned the right to repre- sent their zone at the All- Ontario OASA Championships this year by virtue of two straight victories over Camp- bellford. A very charged up Campbell- ford team proved very tough on their home diamond on Aug. 5 as their pitcher allowed just two hits in the regulation seven in- nings. The score was tied at one each after three innings and Campbellford went ahead 2-11n the fourth. The see-saw contin- ued as our Legionaires scored single runs in the fifth and sixth innings to hold a 3-2 margin go- enth. The game looked to be a wrap for Port as we managed two outs and had two strikes on a batter when Campbellford pushed across the tying run on a passed ball. What a let down! Hold on though...the top of the eighth was another matter altogether. Our Legionaires stuck their chest out and finally took the bats out of the equip- ment bag. The result?? Would you believe an 11-hit outburst that resulted in 18 runs in the top of the eighth and an awe- some 21-3 win! The drive back home was definitely happier with thisone under our belt. The game totals showed Ryan Moynes to be our toughest bat- ter as he had three hits and three walks. Casey VanSchag- en also had three hits while Darryl Dalton had two. Singles were added by Chris Jones, Jeff Ashton, Scott Jeffrey, Jon ing into the bottom of the sev- Froats and Brad Monsma. Defensive highlights were by our catcher Jeff who perfectly executed a tag-out of a runner "hung-up" between first and second. Michael Versage snared a hard liner and then alertly doubled off a runner at third. Chris pitched the win with 12 strikeouts and allowing just five hits in eight innings. On Aug. 6, our lads used the home crowd cheers as fuel to jump out to a first inning 3-0 lead and the momentum carried on to the eventful 14-1 Port Perry triumph. Once again Chris pitched the win on a two hitter with eight strikeouts. Everyone contribut- ed defensively and highlights included a nice catch by right- fielder Ryan Fraser followed later in the game by another "TV-replay" catch by Darryl in deep left field with a heads-up relay to Jon at second for a dou- ble play. Offensively, Chris and Casey each crashed triples in addition to a single and a walk. Scott also had a big first inning triple plus a single. Brad's bat was alive with a two for two showing. Reid McTaggart slashed a nice single down the first base line for a hit and Jeff also singled. Both Jon and Michael earned two walks. Way to go team! Your compo- sure and sportsmanship in your wins was a credit to your town. Good luck in your upcoming league championship tourna- ment and in the OASA tourna- ment in Joyceville.
