The trees, bushes, etc. are beginning to turn and a nip of frost is in the air these nights. U.C.W. General Meeting Held upstairs in Nestleton United Church, on Wednesday, Sept. 16, general president Ar- lene Malcolm chaired the meet- ing and opened with a humor- ous reading "If God Gave Speeding Tickets", and then went into the business at hand; items of business as follows: The Fall Regional meetings of the Oshawa Presbyterial will be held Oct. 5 at Westminister United Church in Oshawa, and Oct. 6 to be held at Blackstock United Church. Guest speakers will be Rev. David and Marcia DUNCAN -- GIBSON Port Perry United Church was the setting for the marriage of Barbara Ellen Gibson and Richard David Duncan on June 20, 1992. Reverend Robert LePage officiated at the ceremony. The bride is the daughter of Ron and Marilyn Gibson and the groom is the son of Ernie and Penny Duncan, all of Port Perry. Given in marriage by her parents, the bride wore a formal gown of white satin roses. roses and baby's breath. accented with lace and pearls. Her headpiece of satin roses and pearl sprays held a fingertip veil. Completing her ensemble was a gold heirloom bracelet that belonged to her great grandmother and a cascade bouquet of pink and white Donna Linton, sister of the bride, of Nestleton was matron of honour and Kelly Monkman of Beaverton and Lori Dunham of View Lake were bridesmaids. The attendants wore suites of pink shantung with lace accents and carried bouquets of pink The groom and his attendants wore black tuxedos. Best man was Bernie Martin and ushers were Sam McCreight and Brad Martin, all of View Lake and close friends of the groom. Following a reception at the Blackstock Recreation Centre, the bride and groom enjoyed a honeymoon in Vermont and Lake Placid. They are presently residing in Nestleton. Smith. The Nestleton U.C.W. 30th anniversary service will be held Sunday, Sept. 27, with a coffee hour after in the Sunday School room. The talent night to be held in the community centre - a money raising venture, is in the plan- ning process and will be an- nounced soon. The U.C.W. have attractive church plates complete with hangers and mugs for sale. They make a lovely Christmas or shower gift. If interested call Barb Weir at 986-4630. After business closed unit leader Ma- bel Cawker led the meeting. Worship Period We were very pleased to have Anita Davis prepare the splend- ed Worship period and she spoke on "The Ecumenical Dec- ade for Women" based on Scrip- ture from Luke 10: 38-42, read by Barb Weir. The story of Mary and Martha. She presented a fine message, closing with Prayer and a hymn was sung with Gwen Malcolm at the pia- no. Joanna Malcolm expressed appreciation to Anita. For the program, we were de- lighted to have Lawrence Mal- colm play his keyboard. He led the afternoon unit in singing "He Owns the Cattle on the Hills" and the evening unit sang with Lawrence playing "He's The One" which was most interesting. Bernice Mairs gave a humorous reading, and Gwen Malcolm introduced "The Tater Family" with seven of the after- noon unit wearing stunning hats and reading novel humor- ous items. Meeting closed with the Mizpah Benediction. Anita Davis was presented with one of our church plates by unit leader Mabel Cawker from the U.C.W. - thank you for her wonderful help down through the years. Nestleton Presbyterian Church The congregation of Nestle- ton Presbyterian Church wel- comed Rev. Wm. Fairley back to the pulpit, after his holidays. Joyce Taylor played the organ. Psalm 107 was read responsive- ly and the message of the chil- dren's story was that in all changes, we should keep Jesus Christ as the centre of our relig- ion. The Scripture readings were from Hosea 11, and Luke 16. Rev. Fairley spoke on the mak- ing of decisions in our lives, and to walk in the light of love. Next Sunday, Sept. 27 at 11 a.m. there will be a 147th anni- versary service, with special music, and Rev. Wm. Fairley speaker. A social time will fol- low the service. You are very welcome to attend this time of celebration in Nestleton Pres- byterian history. Past Matrons Club Members of the Past Matrons Club of Blue Ray Chapter in Port Perry had a delicious din- ner at Crandells River Boat on Monday evening, and then held the business meeting at the home of Karel Nottinghams on Scugog Island. A meaningful time for all. News of Families Neta Fish of Cadmus Road, is a frequent visitor at Port Perry hospital to visit with her sister- in-law Heather Munroe who isn't feeling the best. Our very best wishes to Heather - a fine person from the Sonya area. The S. Cawkers had an inter- esting visit with an old friend Bill Cairns of Lindsay this past week. Since his retirement - he is a real historian. We enjoyed a cup of coffee with Alan and Eleanor Cawker of Oshawa, and charming granddaugher of Whitby who was visiting with them. De- lighted to see son Grant on Sun- day for a visit at the farm, as- sisting father Sam with a few chores. Our sympathy goes out to Shirley Prosser of Nestleton and the family, in the loss of her husband Don, who passed away recently. He will be sadly missed by relatives and friends. Nestleton United Church On a bright Sunday, Sept. 20 at 11:15 a.m. John and Linda Arbuckle were the friendly greeters at the door. Rev. Dale Davis opened the service with the call to worship, with Carol Mairs at the piano. An interes- tiang story for the large num- ber of children present, was presented by the minister. Rev. Davis' sermon topic "God, Mon- ey and Power" - a strong mes- sage for all to think about. Jen- nifer Arbuckle read - the Scripture from Hosea 11: 1-11 and Luke 16: 1-13. The choir sang "To Be God's People" with Carol accompany- ing at the piano. After the offer- ing - the Doxology was sung and service closed with hymn "To Show By Touch and Word" - Benediction and singing "Go Now In Peace." GR Our congratulations to Mr. John Leask. At"the Lexington, Kentucky Horse Park, North American Belgian Champion- ship show no. 2, he won two firsts and two seconds. Too, he won the grand champion mare of all North America. This was the largest show ever for Bel- gians. He also got the first prize in the "Mare and Foal" class. You can really be proud of your fine horses, John! To be the best in all of North America is an honor. Mrs. Margaret Couperth- waite and Robert attended the S.C.O.P.E. picnic on Sunday at the Stepping Stone Stables. Many of our neighbors at- tended the Plowing Match near Lindsay. The weather was pret- ty good and the display booths were really interesting. Such a lot of work and effort went into this fine show. All of the girls who wege "Queen of the Furrow" worchl: credit to Ontario and Canada, too! I did enjoy the "Grandmoth- er Cloggers." The men did an excellent job of getting us from our car park- ing lot, over to the main exhib- its. Congratulations everyone. The Don McKeans have a new baby granddaughter. She in Kentucky show was born on Saturday, Sept. 19 in Calgary. A daughter for son Glenn and Terraise, . weighing over eight pounds, as yet un- named. Lo Ladies, the September meet- ing of our Women's Institute will be held at Muriel Gibson's home on Wednesday, Sept. 28, Come and hear and see all about that fabulous land, New Zealand, at 1:30 p.m. Congratulations to all the young people who took part in the 4-H show in Beaverton on Friday night.
