Study indicates plenty of room for additional commercial space By Scott Anderson Port Perry Star A commercial market study has determined there is market potential for an additional su- permarket within Port Perry. The results of the study, pre- pared by John Winter Asso- ciates Limited on behalf of the township, were presented to Scugog councillors Monday af- ternoon. This study is in response to a recent proposal to construct a large commercial and retail fa- cility on the old Conway proper- ty on Highway 7A. Erin's Leigh Plaza calls for 95,000 square feet of commer- cial space including a 20,000- square foot supermarket, 27,000-sq. ft. home and auto supply store, a 7,770-sq. ft. drug store, a 3,000-sq. ft bank and 2,400-sq. ft. fast food restau- rant. * Plans also include additional condominium units. Council called for the study to determine whether Port Perry could accomodate the addition- al commercial units. In making his report, Mr. Winter determined Port Perry could accomodate an additional 96,470 square feet, which in- cluded another supermarket in the 20,000 square foot range. Mr. Winter says the addition- al commercial space could prove beneficial to the community in terms of employment and in- come.
