i i "A Family Tradition for 126 Years" Emmerson upset B&R Swampers The biggest upset of this young season occurred this past Sunday as Emmerson's In- surance eked out a 2-1 win over the B & R Swampers. Joe Par- kinson from James Hudgins, and Michel Roy started the scoring midway through the first period for Emmerson's. It wasn't until three minutes into the second that B & R retaliat- ed when Brian Robinson assist- ed on Dave Canning's marker. The Swamper's rejoicing was short-lived however as the Em- merson winner was scored 1:32 later off the broom of John Ger- ber unassisted. Blackstock earned their sec- ond straight shutout as the Brewer's defeated the Framer's Gallery in another one goal af- fair by a 1-0 margin. It looked like Blackstock was capable of something big in this game as the lone goal came just 34 sec- onds after the start of the affair. Tom Wotten and Cordell Keun- ing got together to aid Kevin Grieve on this one. Rick MacL- ean between the pipes marked the shutout. The last game of the day saw Monsma Electric and Woody's battle to a scoreless draw through regulation time. How- ever, during the four on four, five minute overtime Woody's pulled away to a 6-2 win. Jim Gregg supplied most of the of- fensive power as he tallied 2 goals and 1 assist. Brad Maarse, Bruce Woodrow, Keith Young, and Wayne Tate sup- plied the other Woody's mark- ers. Further assists went to Rob Mason with 3, Gene and Bruce Woodrow, and Tate. Murray Down and Ken Lynde replied for Monsma with Greg Gibson grabbing 2 assists and Down a single. The goalers through the regulation time who kept the scoresheet blank were Rick Lees for Woody's and Jim Ma- son for Monsma. Merchant Ladies defeat Sunderland 4-0 in league play In ladies broomball action the Rookies and Courtice Auto Wreckers met in the first match of the day with Rookies squeak- ingout a 1-0 victory. The game was scoreless until near the end of the third period when Karen Bell scored the win- ning goal. Karen Brodie and Kim Marshall picked up assists on the play. With 1:12 left in the game Carol McInerney scored the third goal of the game, again on a shot from theredline. The Misfits pulled their goal- ie, opting for the extra attacker, but Joan Dalton picked up a leading pass to put it into the empty net with just 13 seconds remaining. More than 200 people tumed out to see the game. Goal scorers included Cal Cochrane, two, Ted Prentice, Garry Shill, Randy Hall and Bob St. John. Bowmanville defeated the Flamingos in the second game of the year 4-3. Port Perry goal scorers were Gary Elliot, captain Harold Fair and Neil McLaughlin. 15 YEARS AGO WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 19, 1977 The Port Perry Legionnaires defeated Peter- borough 5-0. Young had a hat trick for Port and Lee and Hendricks added one each. The Canadian Tire Bantams won their sea- son opener over Stouffville. Brian Mikkleson, two, Jim Daniels, Joe Williams and Brian Dickson had the markers. Tom Olsen of Prince Albert is returning to Bowling Green State University in Ohio where he is a member of the University hock- ey team. The Malmont Farms Atoms were defeated 3-1 by Pickering. Lee Wilbur scored the only goal for Port Perry, assisted by Mike Dickson. 10 YEARS AGO TUESDAY, OCTOBER 19, 1982 The Lakefield Chiefs and the Port Perry MoJacks battled to a 5-5 draw. Tim Thomp- son had two goals for the local club and sin- gles went to Scott Wallace, Brian Mikkleson and John Fusco. Emmersons defeated Beacock's in the only close broomball match of the day. Ken Little from Mike Springstead and Tim Dennis from John Gerber replies for Emmerson. Beacock's lone marker was scored by Ron Redman, with the assist going to Wayne McGuigan. More than 90 competitors turned out for the sixth annual snowmobile drag races on grass at the fairgrounds in Port Perry. Pearce Auction Novice The Port Perry Novice team made a good showing against their opponents from Stouff- ville. Stouffville came on strong with a goal in the first period, but Port Perry's Dean Van Camp evened the score in the second period, assisted by a sol- od pass from Trevor Lance. Also assisting.on the goal was Matt Skerratt. Stouffville was hot on our heels though with another goal two minutes later.
