Eaglettes dominate Ajax The XL Gas Bar Novice team entertained Ajax on Saturday at the Scugog Arena. Coming off a hard fought tie last week against a strong Whitby team, everyone was an- ticipating another close one. But the Eaglettes dominated right from the opening free- pass and coasted to a 13-1 victo- ry. With two of their top players, Katherine Cooke and Leanne Layzell away for the weekend, coach Virtue and coach Cun- ningham did some line juggling and gave the girls a chance to play in different positions. The result proved to be very success- ful with a strong team effort dis- playing a potent offense and a solid defense. And behind that is the great goaltending of Jill Pashley who is getting better with each game, having allowed only eight goals in her last four games for a super 2.00 average. Offensively, the players are starting to take advantage of the opportunities around the net, scoring 48 goals in their last five games for a 9.8 goals/ game. Alaina Burger scored the first three goals for Port, her first natural hat trick, and bringing her total to eight goals. Stacey Cunningham continue to lead the team in scoring with two goals and two assists, giv- ing her 16 goals. Sarah Verschuuren contin- ues to lead the team in assists with a three goal - three assist effort, and giving her 11 assists. Nicole Virtue also had a hat trick, raising her total to nine goals. Alaina Davis scored her first goal of the season and add- ed two assists, giving her seven points so far. Also scoring her first goal and playing her best game was Shannon Warriner. Kristen Waller came close to notching her first, but has to settle with two well deserved assists. Janna Ostafichuk also picked up two important as- sists, giving her nine assists. Rhea Baxter, Jackie Pashley, and Heather Reid, although held pointless in the game, con- tinue to improve with each game and are showing more confidence with each shift. Overall, the Eaglettes are off to a fast start with a 4-1-1 record, playing a solid two-way game that is both entertaining and exciting. Keep up the good work, girls. This Sunday the team plays Whitby No. 1 in Brooklin in what should be a close, evenly matched game. Stay tuned for the game report next week. galt al WE PAY B-item med. pi Square Boy P auto glass & trim nd. 139 Water Street , Port Perry 985-8507 e Free Mobile Service in Durham ym ---- ---- Growth & Safety -------- Balanced Mutual Funds ROBERT J.
