We were glad to understand his present ail- ment of Lou Gehring's Disease of which we are not familiar. We also learned that Allen is anx- ious to share his talents to help raise money to study this dis- ease for a cure. I have seen Allen's great va- riety of outstanding paint by numbers, some of which are framed. They are quite expen- sive to start and when finished, look like an original. He decided to display this variety in hope that someone would like to pur- chase some as gifts or personal- ly, and thus turn over some money to the study of his dis- ease. Accordingly, Allen and Beth are having an Open House at 54 Ambleside Road, on Gerrow's Beach on Saturday, Dec. 5 from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. If this time is not appropriate for you, please call 985-2175 to make other ar- rangements. Try to visit Allen and Beth in their cozy little home at least for a social time with a cup of tea and perhaps a donation, if not a sale, to this worthy cause. They have always been inter- ested in sharing their talents with church and community, and this is their way of continu- ing. We've had a recent account of the Scugog Community Care now celebrating its 156th Anni- versary with increasing care by 140 volunteers and presently 350 clients. When people retire they often find this extra volun- teer work very satisfying. If you consider some help in service or donations please call at 175 North Street. On Sunday, most churches 'celebrated the first day in the season of Advent, a season of preparing for Christ's birth. As we enter the Christms sea- son we note outside prepara- tions at the Scugog United Church. A first time creche display will be in place at the front of the church. December will be a very busy month within the church. Please follow your church cal- endar. When you attend the Island United please remember your unwrapped gift to be put in the entrance box up to Dec. 13, clothing, food, toys, etc. The Scugog and Manchester Churches and community were saddened to hear of the passing of John Kingstone. The reason for this is that the kiwi forages for its food on the ground, and, having no need to fly, it has gradually, through the ages, lost the use of its wings. It's the same with any gift 'that we have been born with and don't use. All of us have a talent for something - although it may not be recognized as such - like making a home, say- ing a comforting word, lending a helping hand when needed, baby-sitting to let a young couple out for an evening. Don't neglect your talent, whatever it is, or you, too, will be like the kiwi and find your ee RAL I WE wien | il Margret and Donald Elford of Port Perry.
