Draws were won by Martin Gall, Earla Hill and Lloyd Greig. Rita Parratt won the 50/ 50. In two weeks we will have our Christmas euchre, so all eu- chre players mark Dec. 18 on your calendars for Utica Hall. The hall board have decided not to have a New Year's Eve dance this year. This means that the hall is available for anyone to have their own party. Weekend guests with Lorne and Eileen Slute were son Brian and girls of Cookstown and granddaughter Kayla from Greenbank. Jack and Nancy Skelding and Karen attended a birthday par- ty for Jack's mother on Satur- day at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Skelding in Newtonville. Congratulations to John Yun who has been working at Utica store for the past while. I've learned that he is to be married this Friday and will be moving to Oshawa. Everyone is going to miss you, John. Congratulations to Kim Sharpe and her husband Dave on the arrival of their son Quin ton who arrived on Wednesday, Dec. 2. What a shame more people didn't attend. Blackstock United Church Hall on Monday, Nov. 30 was the setting for enrolment night of 17 girls into the 1st Black- stock Girl Guide Movement. The Outers Club of the Cart- wright High School spent the weekend camping - at least the weather cleared even if it was cold. The Annual Carol Service held at the Blackstock United Church was a fine success with many fine carols sung by the congregation joined by the choirs of the St. John Anglican Church, the Nestleton United and the Blackstock United. Each choir sang several beauti- ful Christmas numbers. A love- ly way to usher in the Christ- mas season. The Christmas meeting of the Blackstock Women's Institute was held on Dec. 2 at 12:30 p.m. at the C.E. Room of the United Church. President Eileen McLaughlin welcomed the 16 members and four visitors present. A delicious pot luck luncheon was enjoyed. Guests for the day were the 4-H leaders and Mrs. Hoogeveen who is the caretaker of the Cenotaph gar- den. Gifts were given to the leaders and our mystery sisters. The collection went to the Sal- vation Army Christmas Fund. The sick and shut-ins were re- membered - Mrs. McArthur, Lillian Wilson, Ruby Johnston and Jim Emerton. A tied quilt is for sale - for fur- ther information contact a W.I. member. Thanks was extended to Carol Thornton's dad for helping with the quilt. For the program Jean Adams read "Why I Am A Canadian" by Joel Aldred. Eileen McLaughlin and Helen Dorrell demonstrated the making of boxes out of used Christmas cards.
