It Is the first time a PPHS Junior team has won the championship. The Junior squad, who went undefeated in regular season play defeated Richmond Hill 59-19 and Car- dinal Carter 50-29 in DYSSAA play. To all of our many supporters, a hearty ... "Thank you" Atom action It was Whitby Auto Wreckers vs the Lions Club in P.A. Day hockey action on Thursday, Dec. 3. In a closely contested game the Wreckers managed to pull out the victory with a 3-2 score. 'Whitby Auto Wreckers took an early lead with a goal by Russ Brown assisted by Came- ron Vernest. The second Wreck- ers' goal was fired in by Jon Sanders on assists from Robert Sheehan and Ryan Fraser. With only eight seconds left in the second period, the Lions Club's Matthew Cracknell popped one in unassisted. Sean Martin of the Lions tied it up ir the third period on a pass from Ian Garnett. Both teams played hard to secure that winning goal late in the third period, and the honors went to the Wreck- ers' Russ Brown, assisted by Beau Jolicoeur. There were very few whistles and both teams butted up against each other with nei- ther team willing to give an inch. With only 12 seconds gone in the game Amy Parliament picked up a-pass from Karen Kett and surprised the Mark- ham netminder by firing in the first goal of the game. A few minutes later, Karen picked up a pass from Melanie Demmer to slide in goal number two. Port Perry scored an addi- tional three goals before the first period ended. Amy Parlia- ment took control of the ring to blast in two more goals while Val Payne rounded out the scor- ing in the first period with as- sists going to Kim Poppleton and Megan Marlowe. At this point in the game Port Perry was enjoying a 5-4 lead. During the second period Val Payne ripped in two more goals, assist- ed by Karen Kett. However, in spite of Port's determined and spirited play this rough and tumble match ended with final score reading 8-7 in Markham's favor. Sunday, the Port Perry Belles played host to another tough op- ponent when they played host to the Mariposa Debs. Once again Port drew first blood on a solitary effort by Megan Mar- lowe who opened the scoring at lose a squeaker the 13:18 mark of the first peri- od. The scoring then proceeded to seesaw back and forth. Dur- ing the period Amy Parliament flew around the ice surface to add three additional goals to Port's total, with all three goals assisted by Karen Kett. Megan Marlowe let fly with a nicely placed shot as she cleanly beat the netminder to bring her game total to two goals. Amy Parliament assisted. Karen Kett fired in goal number six af- ter she picked up a well placed pass by Kim Poppleton. As the period ended Port was up by two goals. The second pe- riod belonged to Val Payne as she burned a path in the ice to rack up Port's next three mark- ers. Michelle Fitzpatrick and Jen Smith combined to set up a series of successful passing plays to earn assists on Val's goals. Port's final goal flew into the net off of Amy Parliament's stick. Port proved to be a very determined group of girls who would not back down under pressure. The opposition had their work cut out for:them as they tried to penetrate a very solid line of defense. Leea Kinu- nen, Kim Poppleton, Michelle Fitzpatrick and Tanya Towns, as well at the offensive lines, proved to the opposing teams that they will never give up. As the result of a combined team effort the girls finished up the weekend on a winning note.
