Ms. Haigh, manager of Scu- gog Employment Services, is hoping to become a broker and representative of the provincial government's JobsOntario Training Fund for the Town- ship of Scugog. According to Ms. Haigh, Dur- ham College in Oshawa has been allocated some responsi- bility for the program and she would like to serve as a broker for the Scugog area. "It would be a real incentive to attract employers to the area, she told Scugog council recent- ly. y Since the employment service was introduced to the area last year, three jobs have been creat- ed under the program, as well as two federally-funded programs. She believes more could be created. "It would create jobs in Scu- gog for Scugog people." Although Ms. Haigh received council's support for the initia- tive, the matter will be decided shortly by Durham Region's So- cial Services Committee. Farmer wants to clear cut 24.7 acres Scugog council has granted a Cartwright landowner permis- sion to clear cut one-third of his trees. Under Durham Region's Tree Conservation Bylaw, Tony Bloeman was required to come beiore council to request per- mission to clear 24.7 acres of trees from his property. Mr. Bloeman is clearing the trees, which he planted earlier, under the Forest Management Program. With Scugog's blessing, it will now be debated at the regional level. = This is the first time Scugog has debated the issue since it was enacted by regional council.
