[t's been so cold, "Snow Buntings" from the Arctic are migrating south to get away from the sub-zero temperatures. Keith Stait-Gardner, who lives on High Point Rd, R.R. #2, Port Perry told The Star last week that he has about 400 of the white, black and brown, finch-like birds feeding in a field behind his home. He said about 50 snow buntings arrived two weeks ago and began feeding on some oats he'd planted on a hill. Since then he's been throwing out wild bird seed and each week the flock continues to grow. Although the birds are spooked easily, and burrow into the snow to keep warm, Mr. Stait-Gardner said he's been able to get quite a few photos of his unusual visitors.
