"A Family Tradition for 127 Years" PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, February 1,1994 - 15 Waiting for the groundhog to appear With a fantastic attendance for the popular Scugog Snow Flake Festival held in Palmer Park, Port Perry in January, we warmly congragulate the orga- nizers of this delightful event. | believe the committee are look- ing forward to the next one. Lots of activity for all ages! Keep it in mind! Very happy January is now over and this Wednesday, Feb. 2 1s Groundhog Day - a day when the comings and goings of groundhogs are supposed to de- termine an early or a late spring. According to tradition, if the animal sees its shadow on Feb. 2, it returns to its hole for six more weeks of winter! Nestleton United Church On a cool bright day, Nestle- ton United saw a splendid con- gregation at the service on Sun- day, Jan. 31, 4th after Epiphany, with Linda Arbuckle and girls the greeters at the door. Rev. David Shearman opened with the Call to Worship and Carol Mairs was the pia- nist. The minister presented a meaningful message based on scripture taken from Deuteron- omy 15-20, Corinthians 1-13 and Mark 1-21-28, with Mat- thew Hill the reader. Many beautiful hymns were sung and service closed with singing "The Lord's Prayer" - Benediction - Go Now In Peace and Three Fold Amen. You know folks, one always brings something from the ser- vice - a thought from the ser- mon - the refrain of a hymn - a word of greeting which stays with you from the minister or a member of the congregation'- it might be the echo of a Prayer - it is always something which lights the way home, and the rest of the week! It is truly im- portant to try to attend services regularly! Family News Grandson Curtis Cawker and his little three-year-old daugh- ter Merisa of Cobourg, dropped in on Thursday morning at the farmstead for a visit with grandma Mabel..and what a wonderful time we had during lunch and later with winsome little Merisa..a great little kid- die - full of life and fun. Thoughts on Life Professor Barclay said: It is hunger which gives food its taste. It is thirst which makes cool, clear water taste like nec- tar. It is tiredness which makes sleep a boon. Life Life is like a journey, taken on a train, with a pair of travellers at each window pane. I may sit beside you all the journey through - or I may sit elsewhere, never knowing you. But if fate should mark me to sit by your side - let's be pleas- ant travellers, it's so short a ride! Live your life while you have it. Life is a splendid gift. There is nothing small in it. But to live your life you must disci- pline it - you must not fritter it away in erring acts - or incon- sistent will, but make your thoughts, your acts, all work to the good same end. That 1s character! by Florence Nightingale A Thank You A warm word of thanks to all my neighbors and friends with- in this area for the many kind- nesses they have shown to me during this "deep freeze" win- ter.
