A week later she was once again named the overall wom- ens' champion at the Ontario Telemark Championships held at Chicopee Ski Club in Water- loo. She finished second in the Giant Slalom and first in the Classic. Other performances so far in 1994 earned her second place overall for combined points at the 1994 Druxy's Ontario Tele- mark Race Series, which con- sisted of four races. Burt also added her third con- secutive title at the Adventure Guide Crash and Burn Race held on January 26 of this year. After being named to the Na- tional team for the first time last season she put in a strong showing at the Canadian Championships, finishing sec- ond, before a reoccurring knee- injury hurt her chances for a good showingat the worlds. This year Burt said she "just wants to ski the best that I can. Thatis very important to me." But her goal is to finish in the top three in the world in the Giant Slalom. Previously an alpine skier, Burt skied in the Nancy Greene League and Alpine Team League for several years. When she returned from As- pen she said she became bored with the sport. That Christmas her brother bought her a pair of telemark skis, and the same year she set out to try her luck at the new sport. Over the past five years she has won several titles, with 1992 being a banner year for Ms. Burt. She won the"gold in the Women's Giant Slalom Ca- nadian Championships; was the combined gold medal win- ner at the Ontario Champion- ships; was first at the Women's Trailhead Crash and Burn Giant Slalom; and second at both the Canadian and Ontario Telemark Championships. Burt said a lot of her success is attributed to those who gave her emotional and mental sup- port as well as financial sup- port. These people include her parents Larry and Diane Burt, Pat and Mike Henning, Atomic Ski Canada, Bolle Eyewear, SkilLoft. Le Griv. Hamsa Centre and Champions Family Fitness Centre. Burt, along with the 14 other members of the National "A" team, will head to the Canadian National Championships on March 5,6 and 7 at Mont Trem- blant, Quebec and the World Ginny Burt, formerly of Port Perry, is pictured skiing dur- Telemark Championships from March 26 to April 2 in La Clu- saz, France.
