Helen, with her ready smile, always had a keen interest in Church and commu- nity affairs, having served well in Greenbank UCW, Green- bank Women's Institute, writ- ing news for the Port Perry Star, and an ardent worker for the Port Perry Fair. She was a fine friend to all who came her way. We are grateful for her friend- ship, her many services to oth- ers, and she was a general fa- vorite..she could always see the funny side of life..a person loved and highly respected by all who knew her. Nestleton UCW Meets The Nestleton UCW met at the home of Kay Notman, on Thursday evening, March 10 with eight members present. Leader Karen Yellowlees pre- sided and extended a warm wel- come to all. Janice MacKenzie was in charge of the worship pe- riod on Lent. Many items of business were discussed - the Smorgasbord May 6 at Nestle- ton Community Centre - also the curtains for the Sunday School room. At the close, a tas- ty lunch was served. Nestleton United Church A large attendance on Sun- day, March 20, Lent V, with Neta Fish and Mabel Cawker the greeters at the door. Rev. David Shearman brought a fine message, taking as his text for this Lenten journey Jeremiah 31:31-34 read by Claire McKen- zie. The choir trio Katie Mairs, Regenia Walker and Shirley Jackson sang nicely "Whisper- ing Hope" with Carol Mairs at the piano. The children's theme was most interesting as well as the appropriate message for the congregation, with excellent thoughts to take home. Lovely hymns were sung - closing with "Lead Us, Heaven- ly Father, Lead Us", Benedic- tion and Threefold Amen. Of- fering received by Richard and Janice MacKenzie. Another bingo Albert Putsey Yes, the Regatta Association is going to try another Bingo this Saturday, March 26 at 7:30 p.m., Caesarea Hall. Sunday night Eileen and I had a lovely evening celebrat- ing Audrey Phillips 90th birth- day. It was great to see the whole family once again. Re- member Audrey and Ray bought the Sears residence on Putsey Dr. and lived there for a number of years. Audrey, after a long bout in hospital, 18 now residing at the Community Nursing Home in Port Perry. By the way, Ruth, don't forget to in- vite us next year, I liked the des- gert. We had a long letter from Oney and Jack Gould this week and they asked to be remem- bered to many of their friends they made in the Blackstock, Nestleton, Caesarea area. They wish so often they were back here with us but we all know the sad days they encountered and it was this which made them want to be nearer to their rela- tives in London, Ont. They were glad to report the baby of the family, David, finally got mar- ried. They are very busy in their church and delivering Meals on Wheels. They end their letter wishing all their friends back here the very best. Congratulations goes out this week to Gord and Michelle Get- tins who had a baby girl. A sis- ter to Jacob and Erika. Penny's father, Earl Hamm, came for a visit and while here was stricken by a massive heart seisure and sec- cumbed. Our most sincere con- dolences is extended to the fam- ilies. Dinner guests with Mabel Cawker at the farmstead on Sunday, were son Arthur of Sudbury, his son Bryan and Trish Cawker and wee son Dy- lan of Kitchener and daughter Cheryl and husband David Clarke, Peterborough. Nestleton Presbyterian Church by Winnifred Davison On a bright March morning, Rev. Wm. Fairley conducted the regular service at 11 a.m. in Nestleton Presbyterian Church. The organist was Joyce Taylor, and the usher was Oliver Rohrer. Psalm 51 was read respon- sively, and the Scripture read- ings were from Jeremiah 31 and St. John 3. The Sunday School class was taught by Peg- gy Jones. Rev. Fairley spoke of the keeping of the Covenant of the Law, which is also the Cove- nant of Love. Holy Communion was dis- pensed with elders Dorothy Lee, Joyce Taylor and Winni- fred "Davison assisting Rev. Fairley. The regular service will be at 11 a.m. next Sunday, when we celebrate Palm Sunday. Figure skating carnival Sunday Spring must be on its way as the activities are winding down at the local arena. On Monday and Tuesday evenings of this week, the concluding curling bonspiel will be held. On Sun- day afternoon, March 27 the Annual Blackstock Figure Skating Carnival will be held at the arena. This is always an outstanding event which at- tracts a large crowd of parents, grandparents and local resi- dents. Try not to miss this show. Brian and Maggie Van Camp, a local young man and his wife, are moving to his new job in Lethbridge, Alberta soon. The best wishes of your home com- munity go with you both. We meet every Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Nestleton Church. This may sound boring but real- ly it's not. We do a lot of things. We have two leaders, Mrs. Graziotto and Mrs. Arbuckle who organized our group. We have boys and girls in our group so don't worry. We have had one meeting when we decided our name and officers. Our president is Rachel Graziotto, Vice-President is Janele Buller, Secretary Allison Malcolm and the Press-Reporter Tracey McKee. To join you must be 10 or older.
