The Jump Rope For Heart event benefits the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Residents celebrate special birthdays The weekly euchre was held on Thursday evening with 11 tables. The lucky winners were Alma Manns, Minnie Martin, Betsy Staniland, Norman Roh- rer, Thomas Manns, Bernice Loudfoot. Lucky draws: Mary Williamson, Mary Cannon, Harry Hill. Better health is wished for Rev. Charlie Clarke who is con- fined to bed in Community Me- morial Hospital. If you are in need of a gift for a special occasion, the Hospital Gift Shop has some lovely items. The shop is open in the afternoon and evening. A special birthday open house was held on Sunday for Olive Beacock and her brother Leslie at the Prince Albert Church Hall. About 100 friends and family attended. Best wishes are extended to Olive and Les from Prince Albert. I was not able to get the win- ners of the Friendly Visitors Draw on Saturday but I hear they had a successful day. Rana Larmer celebrates 100th birthday A very special event took place in the Christian Educa- tion Building at the Blackstock United Church on Sunday af- ternoon, May 1, when a birth- day party was held to celebrate the 100th birthday of Miss Edna Larmer. A huge crowd of well wishers, relatives, friends and former neighbors came to bring greetings to this delight- ful lady on this happy occasion. A lovely lunch was provided by the U.C.W. During the after- noon, Mayor Howard Hall brought greetings from the Township of Scugog and Lieu- tenant-Governor Jackman. On behalf of the United Church minister Rev. D. Shearman and congregation, Merrill Van- Camp also extended congratu- lations. Nephew Lawrence Larmer reminisced over events that occurred in the past 100 years. Happy birthday, Edna! Rogation Sunday tells us that God and Human, kind co-operates in agriculture: that care of the land is both task and privilege and that our hte depends on God's goodness. Our celebration of Rogation recalls ancient tradition and gives the opportunity to share our con- cern for the earth with each oth- er and with God. The Sunday School theme which was read by Vanessa Rose was to celebrate our world of happy differences as part of God's plan. The tables were filled with many, many international foods in- cluding dishes from Germany, Holland, England, Scotland, Italy, France, Ireland and Can- ada. On Tuesday noon, Barry Van- Camp surprised his mother Wil- ma with a birthday dinner at the home of her friend Jackie James. "Willie's" two sisters Helen Dorrell and Eileen McLaughlin and her cousins Ruby Trewin, Jean Slemon, Joyce Kelly and Joan Graham were guests and enjoyed the de- licious five-course dinner pre- pared and served by Jackie and Barry. What a delightful after- noon of visiting. The Talent Auction at the United Church on Friday eve- ning was a great success. What a variety of items of goods and services were sold by auctioneer Harvey Graham. The range ex- tended from butter tarts to a moose dinner at the home of Bill and Paula Lishman, from trees to doilies, from stargazing to ca- noe trips. Fun was added when Lulabelle and Homer arrived, as well as the clowns. Marg and Heinz Vehof of Cadmus have guests from Ger- many for three weeks. We hope that sister-in-law Anna Vennes and sister Mimi Terhurne are enjoying their visit. Surely hope that the weather improves be- fore you leave. There were 12 tables at the Tuesday evening weekly card party with the following win- ners: Elsie Pogue, Ruby Smith, George Harper, Eileen Warder, Vivian Kydd, Mary Cannon and Betsy Staniland. Draws were won by Betsy Staniland, Kath- leen Watts, Verna Robinson, Norman Rohrer and Mary Poots. Most of the university stu- dents have completed their studies for this year and have returned home. Next Saturday there will be an outdoor yard sale at the High School and a rummage sale at the United Church. No doubt there will be many other yard sales as well. At the United Church on Sun- day morning, it was a day at Camp-Quin-Mo-Lac, complete with tent, canoe, trees and bird songs. Leaders were Bob Al- mack, Liz Henderson, Jill Van- Camp and Pat Obstfeld, as well as many campers from that camp.
