wr "A Family Tradition for 128 Years" PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, May 31,1994 - 15 J. PETER HVIDSTEN / PORT PERRY STAR Pine Ridge District Cubs held their annual Cubaree at Port Perry Fairgrounds over the weekend. The event started Saturday with a march to Palmer Park for the official opening, followed by a variety of events at the fairground during the afternoon and evening. Sunday morning the youngsters enjoyed breakfast, took part in a church service and awards were presented before breaking camp. Above, four cubs enjoying breakfast, from left Wesley Beattie, Corey Slute, Jason Johansen of the 1st Sea the 1st Port Perry Cubs. grave Cubs and Andrew Foster from Cuboree held in Port Perry 1st Port Perry Cubs attended their final outing for this Scout- ing year on Saturday when they attended the 25th Pine Ridge District Cuboree. Thanks to the Port Perry Fair Board for let- ting us use the fair grounds for camping and events we were able to host this weekend. One hundred and thirty youth and adults took part in this event. We continued our tradition in keeping the "Outing" in Scout- ing by holding quite a few week- ly meetings outside and taking part in a fall camp, winter camp, Trees for Canada, and Cuboree which is our Spring Camp. We have eight boys who are moving up to Scouts and 15 Beavers moving up to Cubs. "Balloo" our Wednesday night leader is moving up to be a Scout Leader and Rick Renison our Colony Leader is moving up to Cubs already with his Wood- badge Part One. Although "Balloo" Kim King will be missed, we know he will be a great Scout Leader! Thanks for all your help and knowledge over the past years Vehicles stolen There is a rash of car thefts in the Scugog area. According to Durham Region- al Police, more than 20 vehicles have been stolen from area resi- dences over the past two weeks. Most of these vehicles have been recovered in other parts of the township. Stolen vehicles from other jurisdictionsincluding To- ronto, Bowmanville, Lindsay and Omemee have also been re- covered. Although itis mainly automo- biles, there were two cases of water craft stolen last week as well. The first incident occurred on May 25 when a Yamaha and a Polaris Sea-doo, including a trailer, was taken from a Mar- low Street residence in Black- ste ck. The same might, two Bombar- dier Sea-doos were also taken from a house on Old Scugog load. JEN Police are unable to explain the rise in vehicle thefts over the pact month and I know some of the Cubs moving up will look forward to your enthusiasm and challeng- es. The parents of the youth of 1st Port Perry can not be thanked enough for your help and committment. Thank you boys for sharing your fun with your leaders and we look for- ward to seeing you next year.
