Sara whois the daughter of Colin and Christine Asselstine celebrated her fifth birthday last Sunday. Happy Birthday, Sara. Another youngster celebrat- ed his fifth birthday. Recently Nathan Alpe celebrated his fifth birthday with friends and relatives. On the holiday week- end about 40 enjoyed a display of fireworks at Patti and Rick Alpe'shome. On Sunday, Marie and Cecil Gibson joined other relatives at the home of Grace and Chris Johnston, Kevin and Heather at Uxbridge for a birthday party to celebrate Heather's sixth birthday. A surprise birthday party was held on Saturday evening hosted by Tracy and Tom Mar- tin when about 30 friends gath- ered to help Marilyn Green cele- brate her 30th birthday. Marilyn received many unusual gifts. Happy birthday to all of these folks. On Friday the Alpes and all of the Bryans helped celebrate Nancy's Mom and Dad (Babe and Wilf Brown) 55th wedding anniversary along with fifty other family members and friends at their McLaughlin Square condo. A reminder of two upcoming community events to wish two young people best wishes on their upcoming marriages - a community shower for bride-to- be Esther Kelly on Tuesday eve- ning May 31 at 7:30 p.m. at the United Church C.E. room. On Sunday afternoon June 5 at the same location a Come and Go Open House will be held for Ja- son Kyte and his bride-to-be. Donations can be left with Gord Paisley or Eileen McLaughlin for a gift for Jason and Tammy. Congratulations to Kevin Gibson who graduated from the Television Broadcasting Course at Mohawk College. His parents Don and Shirley Gibson joined Kevin at the Convocation Exer- cises at Mohawk College, Ham- ilton on Saturday. Best wishes in your chosen profession, Ke- vin. Please inform me of any grad- uations in your family so the happy news can be included in this column. We are so proud of all of our young people's achievements. (Cecil and Marie Gibson cele- brated their 49th wedding anni- versary with their family. Con- gratulations! Better health is wished for Roy Turner who is a patient in Bowmanville Memorial Hospi- tal. Shirley just recently re- turned home from that same hospital. Muriel Wotten, Hazel Coates, Joyce Kelly along with Mae Buller of Shirley represented Shirley W.L. at the District An- nual on Wednesday at Brooklin. Muriel was re-elected to be sec- retary of the District. Joyce was honoured to be the afternoon speaker for the event. Ross Tysick is at home recu- perating from surgery last week in Oshawa General Hospital. We hope that the recovery 1s as fast as possible, Ross. There were 10 tables at the weekly card party with the fol- lowing winners: Bernice Loud- fobt, Charlie Stapleton, Irene Hoffman, Ruby pmith, Lauree- na Bright, Jenifer Kissack, and Dorothy Beach. Lucky draws were won by Helen Dor- rell, Dorothy Beach, Norman Rohrer,Charlie Stapleton, Rich- ard Manns and Laureena Bright. Word has just been received of the sudden passing of Viola (Bradburn) Carter who died on Saturday. Sympathy is extend- ed to her husband Frank and family and her brother Joe Bradburn of Port Perry. Viola and Frank lived in the Bow- manville-Maple Grove area. Muriel and Henry Wotten at- tended the funeral and visita- tion for her uncle Mr. Preston last week. Gerald and Joyce Kelly at- tended the visitation at Port Hope for Joyce's long time friend Nancy (Harness) Pauley who passed away following a lengthy illness. Casie Shortridge, Dana and Carrie Fisher had taken a course, "Kids Can Sew" spon- sored by Whitby Fabricks and taught by Michelle Buller. These three young ladies joined about 100 young people at a fashion show in Whitby on Fri- day evening when they all dis- played their newly-made fash- ions. 'Due to the Nestleton United Church Sunday School Anni- versary, there will be no service at Blackstock United Church. Nestleton service is at the regu- lar time of 11:15 a.m. The fol- lowing Sunday, June 12 will be the special service of the Black- stock Sunday School Anniver- sary at the regular 10 a.m. time. Bethesda Reach Women's In- stitute members enjoyed a bus trip to Durham recycling depot and to Durham transfer station for hazardous waste. It was in- teresting to see how paper, tins, plastic and glass were sorted out and baled in 1,400 bales and trucks to take them to be recy- cled. The glass is broken and used as the base instead of grav- el as base in building roads and parking lots. There is 1,000,000, Ibs. of waste handled here each week. They also visited the hazardous waste bins. The W.I. District Annual was held in Goodwood. Doreen Bre- thour president of Bethesda Lo Reach W.I. is also president for the district conducted the busi- ness meeting for the district an- nual. Congratulations to Wendy Evans and Brian Meek who were married on Saturday, May 28 at the Uxbridge Baptist Church. At the reception the family honored their father and moth- er as it was Barbara and Ross 40th wedding anniversary. Friends were invited in for des- serts at 7:30 p.m. We welcome Wendy and Brian at 17100, their new home on Marsh Hill Road.
