It was less than two weeks ago that I was watching ball games and wearing my winter coat to keep warm and then all of a sud- den it's heat and humidity like we haven't seen in a long time. Those with air conditioners got full use of them and if you hap- pened to have a swimming pool, congratulations. 1 spent more time in the bathtub (that also works). The cable company has been busy this week laying new lines through the village. Some of us were without phones for some time which doesn't go over very well because we all depend on that service as our lifeline. We're back in the world of com- munication once more, the mailboxes are back in place so we have mail delivery and the telephones are working. Some lawns won't be the same but it's all in the line of progress. Goodwood ladies were guests. The theme of the service was a favorite hymn and Eileen read about some of them, their history, etc. Following the meeting several went on to view the flowers of Marjorie Hoque at Coppins Corners. Some also enjoyed seeing the Slute flower gardens which are very beauti- ful. On Monday, the Port Perry Curling Club's afternoon ladies enjoyed nine holes of golf and returned to the home of Mindy Roberts on Christie Crescent, for a lovely barbecue, salads and desserts and a great get- together. The weatherman tried to co-operate but a few showers did fall. On Friday evening, the Utica Daycare held their graduation ceremony which started with a barbecue, salads, etc. and was enjoyed by approx. 75 parents, teachers and children. Despite the heat, there were approx. 100 people who turned out on Saturday evening for the United Church's beef supper. Everything was delicious and those who didn't get there be- cause of other commitments, etc. really missed out. I don't think that I've ever seen such a variety of pies to choose from. I made my once-a-year trip down home to Scarbo- rough on Saturday and while in the area visited with Al and Joyce Yates and was a luncheon guest with my aunt Fanny Mey- ers.
