Sometimes the most economical means of having our children cared for is by taking them to a friend or neighbour, or a relative and we justify this by saying that we want our children in a home atmosphere. What we forget is that daycares are operated to take care of our children while we are away. Trained professionals who have nothing else to concentrate on, but caring for the children are there to make sure that your child is comfortable, nurtured and prepared to deal with the world beyond. Utica Community Daycare Inc. was opened in May of 1987. It was established to meet the needs of the surrounding rural farm families and the communities of Port Perry and Uxbridge. Since 1987 the daycare has evolved and gone through various stages of development. We serve the needs of families with children ages 15 . months to 9 years through many facets of Early Childhood Education. Utica Daycare is open 12 months of the year from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m Monday to Friday. Our intimate, home-like setting provides care for a Toddler group of 5 children who range anywhere from 15 to 30 months. For our 16 Preschoolers, who are 31 months to 5 years, we have a Nursery School Program which runs from 8:30 - 11:30 a.m. each morning as well as the daycare program. Utica also provides care for School-age children, 6 - 9 years on those dreaded P.D. days or before and after school as required. We are flexible to meet your needs and can provide either full or part-time care. At Utica we believe that children learn about life by being involved in life. As often as possible we take the children on field trips out into our surrounding community. Recently, we have visited the Port Perry Animal Shelter and the Uxbridge Pet Store, the Northwood Exotic Animal Ranch, Willowtree Farm Pumpkin Patch and have begun an intergenerational project with the Villa Seniors Residence in Port Perry where share songs and refreshments with the residents there. Every morning the children have a Circle time together, implemented by the Early Childhood Education staff and assistant. This is a time when young children have the opportunity to incorporate some structured and group learning into their activities. It is preparation for the years to come at school when the ability to concentrate becomes so important. Children learn positive group- behaviours as they focus on learning through songs, games and group activities surrounding a weekly theme. Hometown Proud!
