Up against a Novice B op- ponent from Whitby, the girls struggled in their first game of the year and ended up on the wrong end of a 14-0 score. Despite the lopsided score, the Eaglettes showed that they have the po- tential to do well this year. Of special note is the performance of our goalie, Heather Imrie. The final score does not reflect the fact that Heather played quite well under an over-powering at- tack from Whitby. Our second game saw the team travel to Oakwood for a game against the Mariposa Novice C team. This game was a complete reversal of our first with the Eaglettes dominating the Maripo- sa team and coming away with a 12-0 win. Port Perry goals were scored by Jackie Pashley (five), Nicole Ansell (three), Sa- rah Aldridge (three) and Whitney Reid. Assists were made by Niosls (two), Christine Cotie (two), Sarah and Shannon Hat- eld. This past Saturday, Oct. 29, the Eaglettes hosted the Novice C team from Markham. The team continued to show improve- ment and succeeded in outscoring Markham by a score of 8-2. Jill Hunter gave a strong performance in goal considering this was her first game at that position. Supporting Jill in the win were goals scored by Jackie (four), Nicole (two), Christine (one) and Ceilildh Baxter (one). Assists were made by Christine, Cei- lidh, Heather, Holly Allison and Brooke Simpson. These results are quite good considering that nine out of the 16 girls on the team had not played a game prior to this season. Theimprovement shown over the past few weeks indicates that this year the Port Perry Novice C team will certain] y be compet- itive at the Novice C level and win their fair share of games. The continued improvement shown by Shannon Urquhart, Jenna Davison, Halley Wilson, Amanda Curry and Jessica Doe will certainly add to the team's success in the future. Adding to everyone's enjoyment was the fact Port Perry came back win- ners by a 7-5 score. Goalies D'Arcy Stephens and Mike Koury were names as our "Best Effort" players and they were certainly instrumental in keep- ing the fast-skating Haliburton team off the board. Haliburton got on the score- board first, late in the first peri- od but Port Perry came out of the period ahead on two quick goals in the dying seconds of the first. Our first goal was on some good passing by Dean Van Camp to Mark Duncan who passed it to Mike LeFort in the slot and he flipped it in. Our sec- ond goal also came as a result of great passing when Trevor Lance "head-manned" to Justin Moffatt who passed to Jeff Tar- botton and he beat the goalie to put us ahead 2-1. Port Perry started the second with some momentum when Dane Gray picked up the pick in the neutral zone and blasted a hard wrist shot to put Port up 3- 1. Scott Duncan and Tyler Hou- thuys worked hard to clear out playersin front of our net. However, Haliburton wasn't » about to give up and replied with two quick goals of their own to tie the game. From this point on, the score seesawed. Dean Van Camp gave Port a 4-3 lead at the end of the second when he scored ona wrapa- round (assist to Mark Duncan). Haliburton then replied with their fourth and fifth goals to move into the lead again. Port Perry stayed with them though and at 4:23 of the third, Adam Moynes tied the score again on a rebound from a shot by Jamie Smith and Adam scored again 77 seconds later when he tipped in a rebound on a Dane Gray shot. Haliburton pulled their goal- ie and pressed hard but could not beat our defence. Jamie Smith scored on an empty net (assist to Mike LeFort) with one second left on the clock! Our bus ride home was a jubilant one! On Sunday, Oct. 30, the Mal- mont lads were on the road again to Woodville to take on the Oshawa Blackhawks. This game was our third win in as many days. Our "minor" line of Justin Moffatt, Jeff Tarbotton and Trevor Lance, put on a passing display and was re- warded with three of our eight goals. They were also named as our "Best Effort" players. Shortly after, Dean took a pass from Ja- mie Smith at centre and broke in all alone to score his second. Mark Duncan also had as as- sist. Riding high from their win Friday night they took to theice and came out flying. Port Perry dominated the beginning of the first period keeping the puck in front of the Port Hope goalie. Their persistence paid off with the first goal for Port Perry coming at 13:18 fired in by Nick Pelyk unassisted. Port Hope got the feel for our team and turned up the heat with some end to end action but Chris Monsma stood firm between the posts and kept Port Hope off the scoreboard. The Legionaires kept digging and Chad Lance rang up goal number two for the Legion- aires assisted by Brad Johnston and Derek Campbell. The second period was to be full of both pen- alties and goals. Port Perry increased their lead to three with a nice goal from Brad John- ston assisted by Nick Pelyk with two Port Perry players in the penalty box. Derek Camp- bell made it four at 9:01 of the second assisted by Braden Tarbotton. Our big number seven Derek Campbell, was Legionaires defeat Port Hope on a roll tonight and popped in another one past the goalie at 8:41 assisted by Brad Johnston and Nick Pelyk. However, Port Hope did not give up scoring four goals between 8:07 and 1:21 of the second. They were determined to make our boys sweat it out. With 40 seconds left in the second period Greg Bruton racked up Port's goals to six assisted by Nick Pelyk. Both teams came out in the third period a lit- tle weary but determined. The puck went from end to end but our man in net Chris Monsma, made some great saves to make sure Port Hope didn't get any more points on the board. Derek Campbell wrapped up the game at 5:17 of the third period with goal num- ber seven assisted by Chad Lance and Braden Tarbotton. This made a hat trick for Derek Campbell and dad Rick (Campy) showed his ap- proval by tossing his favorite "Bruins" hat onto the ice.
