The forwards, Chet Martin, Jordan Froats, Lucas Fraser, Kevin Robins, Teddy Howarth, Joey Lane, Pat Lewis, Alex Ni- colau 'and Tyler Weisflock are showing better passing skills each game along with some good rushes. Port Hope played hard but the defence core of Justin Koury, Ryan Hnatko, Justin Shinn and Gordon Smith com- bined with good goaltending by Kurtis Wager and Scott Honey stopped them from scoring. Fi- nal score 2-0 for Pearce Auction- eers. On Saturday, Nov. 5 at 7 a.m. in Little Britain, Pearce Auc- tioneers played their first game of the Mariposa tournament against the Oshawa Red Wings. The first period of overtime saw no scoring despite good ef- forts by both teams. The goalies were pulled for the second peri- od of overtime and Oshawa scored at 2:14 to win 3-2. The Auctioneers third and fi- nal game of the tournament was against the home team (Mariposa) at the Oakwood Are- na on Sunday morning. Two minutes later Joey Lane scored Port Perry's second goal and 30 seconds after that Pat Lewis scored the third. Final score 9-2 Pearce Auc- tioneers. A good team effort was made by all the boys in their four weekend games. Legionnaires chalk one up to experience Our Legionnaires paid a visit to the Peterborough Nationals on Sunday night and it was a 'visit I am sure the Legionnaires would like to forget. Our man between the posts, Chris Monsma was spectacular doing everything to keep Peter- borough from scoring, but they kept the pressure on and racked 'ap two goalsin the first. The penalty box should have had a revolving door tonight to save the wear and tear on the hinges as both teams accumu- lated double digits in penalty minutes. Peterborough played some very disciplined hockey, never letting the pressure off for a minute. They scored two goals in both the first and second peri- ods despite the efforts of the Le- gionnaires to shut them down. Mike MacLennan stepped into goal in the third period and also made some great saves. Ryan McQuade carried the puck all the way with a heavy shot right on the National's goalie but he was not going to let Port Perry get on the board. Jeff Ashton and Greg Bruton also made an attempt but we just could not get a break from the National's goalkeeper. Peterborough racked up an- other two goals in the third which made tempers run a little high. After a few misconducts at 1:09 of the third, the game was called due to time. Final score Peterborough 6 - Port Perry 0. Chalk this one up to experience, boys. Good effort by everyone. Our next home game is Fri- day, Nov. 11 at 9:16 p.m. against Belleville. $n uimwin. pin ORTS Jim Grieve of the Port Perry IGA store was honored Sunday by the local ringette assocla- tion for his long-standing sponsorship of teams here. Rarely did the Mississauga team come up with the ring out of a scrum, as Port Perry has some of the best forecheckers in The final score in this game was 7-2. The goals were shared by six different Port players, with every skater involved in either a goal or an assist. What a well-rounded team! Dana Hooker, Lisa Bonser, Shona Moase, Laura Hooker, Cara Vander Slagt, Diane Vanderligt, Janine Hammond with two were the scorers. Assists went to Cara, Dana, Lisa, Janna Se- nyk, Jen Elliot, Natasha Burgess, Brooke While all the goals were important, the fans were delighted that Janine's infamous cross- bar shots decided to go in this game. Lisa scored a short-handed goal early in the first pe- riod on a long pass from Cara, and late in the second period, Cara scored with only three Port skaters on the ice on an impossible get-it-to-me pass from Natasha who was flat on her stom- Port Perry's extremely strong defensive unit of Brooke, Bonni-Jo, Janna and Natasha - an- chored by Katie Senyk in goal were an equal IGA Juniors recognize sponsor On Saturday at noon, the Port Perry IGA Junior A Ringette team took to the ice in Mis- sissauga for the first of two games on the week- end. It was a fast paced game against a well- disciplined team, but Port had a definite edge in many areas. The stamina which coaches Se- nyk, Shanley and Hooker have built up in the team members allowed them to control the situation. of the part of this and every other game in IGA Junior As have played this season. The scores are low because the opposing players cannot often penetrate the wall put up by these team members, and if they do, Katie is there - ready, willing and able to deal with the On Sunday, the Port team hosted Markham's Junior As, and came away with another victory. After a presentation to Jim Grieve from IGA for his long years of sponsoring a Ringette team, and after a loud, brisk warmup, the fast-paced, penalty filled game got underway. Katie Senyk faced 25 shots during the match, and came up with 24 great stops. Once again, the defensive squad did their work well, with ex- ceptional digging by Bonni-Jo. Janine began the scoring on a pass from Lisa, followed by goals by Brooks and Dana. At the end of the first, Jill put a beauty behind the Markham goalie on a smooth play which be- gan with Brooke, was picked up by Lisa, and passed to Jill's stick in front of the net. At the beginning of the second period, Katie had her work cut out for her with two Port players in the penalty box and the shots coming fast and furiously. Then, more than half way through the second, Laura took Port's first shot of the period and buried it behind the goalie: With the penalty boxes full, and each team with three skaters, Cara made no mistake on a pass from Bonni-Jo. It looked like Katie's first shut- out of the year was a possibility but alas! The scoring ended with Markham's lone goal ame. The final score was 6-1 for Port Perry IGA Junior As. i MoJacks cruise to easy 4-0 victory over Bullets By David Stell The Port Perry ModJacks didn't play up to their potential this weekend. Fortunately for them they didn't have to. Even playing at half speed, the MoJacks had no trouble tak- ing three out of four points, in a two game series with the Bob- caygeon Bullets. The two teams tied 3-3 in Bobcaygeon, Friday night, but it was a different story Sunday night. The MoJacks cruised to an easy 4-0 win on homeice. Goaltender James Paterson, in just his third start for Port JAMES PATERSON Perry, shutout the Bullets on the way to his first win of the hg ] season. He faced 14 shots but might have been a little lonely in the MoJacks end of the ice, The rest of the team spent most of the night in front of Bullet netminders Chad Vandam, throwing 39 shots at him. At 9:46 of the first period, Ryan Ridgway opened the scor- ing for the MoJacks. Steve Laird and Duane Empringham worked the puck over to idg- way in the hashmarks, and he fired a low shot at Vandam that found the corner of the net. Turnto Page 17 ET
