NUTS ABOUT CHOCOLATE Queen Street, Port Perry Mayor Hall said he would be surprised if the Snow Flake Festival didn't cost the town- ship this much or a little more. "We (Scugog Township) couldn't buy the type of exposure we get from this festival for only $1,500 to $2,000, he said. Other councillors agreed, although they felt it was neces- sary for the organizing commit- tee to present a budget to coun- cil showing where they expect to raise funds and what the expected costs will be to run the event. Among the requests council agreed to initiate are: the clo- sure of Queen St. from Perry to the lakefront for race day; clo- sure of Perry St. from Queen to North St.; use of the municipal offices for racers; close the access road beside Crandell's Restaurant and close Palmer Park to all vehicles and snow- mobiles during the festival. In addition to closing Palmer Park off for the festival, council decided to make the area off- limits to snowmobiles for the entire winter. They agreed to post "no snow- mobiling signs" in an area across the lakefront bounded by the most northerly fence of the north ball diamond to Queen St. All councillors agreed snow- mobiles did not need to be using the park for.recreation with so much area for them to use on the lake. The only vehicular traffic that will be allowed in the park during the festival will be a large trolley being brought in from Toronto to give rides and designated tours for senior citizens. re GEAR Councillor Pearce said all the activities will take place in the area of the gazebo in the park and Queen St. 985-96M 126 Water St., Port Perry 10 Jo) A KINY 1 T0TAY THIS WEEK'S FEATURE SHOE...
