Secr-gog Shores Museum The Museum will be having a children's Christmas craft ses- sion on Saturday, Dec. 17 from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. This ses- sion will allow your child to ex- perience the traditions of pio- neer and Victorian Christmas. Junior Youth Group On Dec. 4, the Junior Youth Group of Scugog Island United Church performed at the Com- munity Nursing Home and Port Perry Villa. After celebrating communion, the youth group acted out a play called "What Does Christmas Mean To You?". A lovely time was had by all. Congratulations to all those who performed - a job well done! Come out and see the Youth Group perform again at the Sunday School Christmas Pa- geant at the Scugog Island United Church on Dec. 18 at 7 p.m. See you there! Scugog Island United Church Despite the poor weather a good crowd attended our service on Dec. 11. Beautiful poinsettia plants added color to our al- ready decorated sanctuary. What a lovely contrast to the white snow outside! We were happy to have the orchestra with us. Bonnie Bell, Carol Ed- gar, Bob Cawker, Edna Beckett and Doug Barber made up this talented orchestra. Don't wor- ry, they will be out again next Sunday for our communion ser- vice at 9:46 a.m. During the children's time, our minister, Elain Barber, shared a tradi- tion with the congregation that people in Mexico enjoy. Elaine and the children paraded throughout the congregation like the "Posadas" in Mexico and the children sang a song begging the congregation to let them come in just like Mary and Joseph did in Bethlehem. It was ORI enjoyed by all. Several of the Sunday School childred were given a little card with the Christmas Story printed on it for learning their Bible verses over the last several weeks. Keep up the good work, chil- dren! The Lectionary Bible Study Group will meet on Tuesday, Dec.13 at 1:30 p.m. The Planning Committee for the New Year's Eve Party and Watch Night Service will be meeting on Wednesday, Dec. 14 at 7:30 p.m. at S.I.U.C. Every- one is invited to join this meet- ing to share ideas. Choir practice will be held on Thursday, Dec. 15 at 7 p.m. The Youth Group will meet on Friday, Dec. 16 from 6 to 7:30 p.m.atS.I.LU.C. Manchester United Church will be having their "Christmas - At Home" on Friday, Dec. 16 at 7:30 p.m. and an invitation has been extended to our congrega- tion. The Christmas Pageant re- hearsal will be held on Satur- day, Dec. 17 at 9:30 a.m. at S.I.U.C. Our communion service will be held on Sunday, Dec. 18 at our regular time of 9:45 a.m. The Christmas Pageant in- volving our Sunday School chil- dren and Youth Group will take place on Sunday, Dec. 18 at 7 p-m. Children and youth please arrive early to get organized downstairs. This is the event that even our youngest children look forward to and everyone of the congregation and communi- ty are invited to attend this spe- cial pageant. Refreshments and fellowship will follow the pa- geant. Our Christmas Eve service will be held on Saturday, Dec. 24at7:30 p.m. atS.I.U.C. For pastoral care, call Elaine Barber at 985-4094. It is beginning to feel like Christmas What a difference a week makes. Now it really is begin- ning to look a lot like Christ- mas. Friday night will be the annu- al Christmas euchre in Utica Hall starting at 8 p.m. Every- one is welcome. The fourth Sunday of Advent will be celebrated this week in Epsom United Church starting at 11 a.m. Sunday School chil- dren are reminded to come at 10 a.m. so they can get some prac- tising for the Christmas concert which will be held at 7 p.m. at Epsom. Parents are reminded to bring finger food for the social time that will follow the con- cert. Word has reached us that for- mer minister Rev. Jim Bewell is scheduled for heart bypass sur- gery. Prayers and best wishes are sent his way. Sympathy is extended to Rev. John and Heather Burton and family in the recent passing of Heather's mother. The Utica Community Day- care held their annual Christ- mas dance on Friday night in Utica Hall with everyone hav- ing a good time. Utica Farm Equipment held their annual Christmas ban- quet and dance in the hall on Saturday night. Despite the se- vere stormy weather, employ- ees from Utica, Orono and Ome- mee dealerships all enjoyed the evening get together. Grace Kirk entertained her brother Bruce and Doris All- worth from Staffordville for a few days this week. They were Joined for Saturday supper by her other brother Ralph and Marie Allworth and their sister Irene Emburgh of Mississauga. Our best wishes to Ann Wil- liams who is improving gradu- ally since her recent stay in hos- pital. Elva Kerry and her sister Wilda Myers enjoyed a trip to Alberta recently. They visited their brother Arnold and his wife Margaret and nephew Bruce and family in Edmonton and niece Lucia of Athabaska. The rest of their holiday was spent with Elva's son Mark who lives in Vermilion. Mark accept- ed a job with Monsanto as terri- tory manager and moved there in September. - Jack and Nancy Skelding were hosts to the Lake family Christmas dinner on Sunday. Archie and Jenny Watson at- tended a surprise birthday par- ty on Saturday night for their son Fred at his home in Scarbo- rough. Due to poor driving con- ditions, they remained as over- night guests. A speedy recovery to Marion Hempen who is convalescing af- ter surgery in Oshawa General Hospital, from her Bethesda neighbors. In spite of the stormy weath- er, a goodly number enjoyed the W.I. potluck Christmas dinger on Saturday night. The other day I was in the Big V and I saw Doug Brown, the manager. I congratulated him on his great display of gifts. I then moseyed around the store and came across the most beau- tiful real live female Santa. I said to her: "Will you really bring me what I want this year?" She said "I will bring you anything you would like." I said "Is that for sure?" "Yes," she re- plied, "I guarantee it for sure". I said, "Santa, will you make me wait until Christmas Eve for it?" At this point, the two ladies helping Santa burst into laugh- ter and Santa jum to her feet, saying "Now! Now!, let's get something straight!"
