Their tape shows four men gathered around the trucks. At one point, a man tosses a banana peel that arcs up and lands on the road. Another man rears back and tosses a drink bottle into the ditch. "I was appalled," said Mrs. Chrapek. "I hink it should be made ; public. "I'm not expecting these guys . to lose their jobs, but they * should be paying the fine, what- ever it is in Durham Region, for littering." John took down the coded numbers on the trucks, and has written an affidavit based on what he says he saw. After the crew left, he said he and his mother went to the spot where the men had gathered and took pictures of coffee cups, lids, a Gatorade bottle, a pudding cup, a cookie box, and other bits of rubbish by the shoulder of the road. They bagged the garbage. Mrs. Chrapek said the remote stretch of road in i township's east end is a favorite spot for people who want to dis- pose of ga e. She and her family vi clean up rub- bish and beer bottles that have accumulated by the road, she said. "I'm just sick of picking up garbage at the end of my drive- way," she said. "We just thought it was totally disgusting." ° Mr. Henshall said he secures few convictions for littering and illegal dumping because it is difficult to pinpoint the source. He added he does receive tips from time to time about littering. "This is the first time I've had a tape," he added. The bylaws officer said he is proceeding cautiously on the matter, consulting with the township administrator and Mayor Howard Hall. "I want to make sure I'm charging the right people under the right bylaw," he said.
