Mosport Speedway and to celebrate, Canada's fastest 1/2 mile oval will host a two day invitational gala. Action begins Saturday night with | qualifying heats for all five of Mosport's | classes and a 25 lap Mosport Modified - Sunday's full schedule will begin with the ThunderCars in a 40 lap feature, the Street Stock class will battle for 50 circuits, the Sportman division then take to the track for 60 laps and finally, the Late Models will dash"n'bash for 75 Racing action begins at 6:30 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. Here's how the point standings look at mid-season. The point scoring system at Mosport encourages victories but also rewards consistency and nowhere is this more evident than in the Thunder-Car class. Queensville's Ken Donaldson has been the dominant driver in this novice class, but regular top finishes by Dan Robinson, Vic and Ritchie Mannette, Don Coppins and Trevor Veitch has left the division with a virtual six-way tie for top spot, with Robinson holding the slim lead. Defending champion Dwayne Glasbergen, has had some troubles this year, but is sitting comfortably in the top 10. Graham Brown is back trying to reclaim the Street Stock title and is currently heading the pack. Derek Henderson has moved into second place just ahead of Nestleton's Dave Lee with Rick Boucher and Royce Jones rounding In the Sportsman division it is still Alex Hamilton leading the standings, but a rash of bad luck is allowing the rest of the field to catch up. Dunnville's Mike Horton holds onto second place followed by the horde including Dwight Brown, Kevin O'Hara, Frank Baudo and Gary Mead. This class could be the one to watch as the season and the Small fields in the Late Model class have not lessened the action or the competition this year. Jeff Hanley has been consistently fast but mechanical problems last Saturday allowed Port Hope's John Owen to take over the points lead, relegating Hanley to second spot only slightly ahead of Stu Robinson and Rob Milwain. Joé Gonsalves holds onto the fifth place slot. Mosport's newest class, the Modifieds, also boast a tight top five. Tom Milligan holds a slim two point lead over Blackstock's Daryl Leatherdale, who. leads Tom Wilson and Dwight Brown by only five points. Late starter Graham Brown has made up for lost time and holds down the fifth position, just nine points in arrears of his brother. These standings could all be juggled after next \ weekend's enduros, so stay tuned, From Corner Five... ) N L JEP TEE EE EE EE EE I 4 ¢ [| ers scored two as Express pitching walked two and one hit by a pitch.
