So far, in 1995, it has happened twice. That being the division league winners also win- ning the season-ending tournament. In T-ball, Analda Garden Centre re- peated as tourney winners while Port Perry Home- town Proud IGA Mites . claimed the Mite tourney title capping off a perfect 14-0 record in season and tournament play. Analda got to the T-ball final against SuperSpud as the two top teams in the run differential tie- breaking process. Black- stock Figure Skating Club finished tournament pre- liminary play at 2-1 also but were edged out of the final. In their first game, Analda beat the Figure Skating Club 27-20 be- hind two home runs from Thomas Prendergast and one from Caitlyn Helling- man. Nathan Alpe cleared the bases with a ninth bat- ter key hit to lead the of- fensive charge for the Skating Club. Analda's second win was a 22-17 victory over the Lions Cubs. Two home runs each by Caitlyn Hell- ingman and Darren Ar- sneault led the offence while Patrick McCrumen made the defensive play of the game with a put-out at first base. Kale Wardeau had a ninth batter home run to lead the Cubs while Nicole MacLeod scored three times. Analda's loss was a 17- 16 squeaker to Super- Spud. Twelve of the 13 players scored at least one run apiece to lead a bal- anced attack. Tim hit a double for SuperSpud. Thomas Prendergast and Caitlyn Hellingman con- tinued their home run bar- rage in a losing cause while Corey Vandewiel had a put-out at third base. In the final, Analda built up a 17-12 lead after two innings and went on to victory over SuperSpud. Five home runs by five dif- ferent players led the Gar- den Centre to the win. Warren Jackson and Jen- nifer Yellowlees had two triples and doubles respec- tively, while every player scored at least one run apiece. Robert Jr." Gatchell had three singles for SuperSpud, Luke Michel a triple and Dannielle Wolters to lead the offence for SuperSpud. Congratulations to the winners and to all T-Ball players, coaches and fans for another exciting sea- son. In the Mite tourney, strong pitching and clutch hits from all players were the key ingredients to the victory. IGA beat Lish- man's 19-6 as the pitchers held Lishman's scoreless for three innings of the five played. IGA got key hits from Sean McKenna and Jamie Newman in the nine-run open inning to gain the win. Jeffery Kraan hit a three-run home run for Lishman's as their key hit of the game. Against Cummings Backhoe, IGA pitchers held the opposition score- less and won 16-0 as Kris- tyna Bauer, Sean McKen- na and Matt Cerovich scored two runs each. Game three was a very exciting game as H&M Wright Sox built up a lead of 11-9 after three innings but a six-run fourth inning "Spanky by IGA put them in the lead to stay and a victory by 18-13. Blake McLaugh- lin had four hits and scored four times to lead IGA while strong piching by Katie Vanstrien and ex- cellent defence by Shawn McNamara were the de- fensive stars in victory. The final game was a re- match with H&M with the final score being 26-13. H&M started fast with a six-run first inning as Me- lissa Killen's double was the key hit. IGA respond- ed with five runs on five straight hits. In the sec- ond, James McGeoghan's two RBIs counted for the H&M runs but Shawn McNamara, s three-rnn ome run was the big hit as IGA scored six runs. In the final five innings, H&M were held to only five runs as the IGA. itch. ing shut down the H&M offence. IGA continued to score as Kristyna Bauer saved her line drive hits for the final game and along with Blake McLaughlin's three-run homer sparked the IGA of- fence to the tournament victory. Sean Winter led the hitting attack . for H&M with three singles and scoring twice, while Melissa Killen, Mark Vernest, Tyson Prescott and Alanna Holland all had a hit apiece and scored two times each. Regular S¢ason Play Hammerheads -W AgriVaders-L The victory by the Wot- ten Carpentry team vault- ed them into first place and a final 1/2 game lead over the AgriVaders to claim the league title with a 6-2-2 record while Spring Grove finished at 6-3-1. Mike Baker Auto 14 Philp Pontiac 0 Strong pitching by Jake Jones and Brian Jensen led the Road Runners to the win. Justin Kennedy, Andrew Bronson, Kyle and Justin Sobczak all had hits and RBIs to lead the offensive cause. Good defensive games for the Firebirds were turned in by Jeff Camp- kin, Alisha Timmers and Steven Larmer. Squirts Swain Seeds 20 Cornhuskers18 Swains continued their improved play and thus won their third game of the season. The game was well played by both teams with the winning run com- ing in the last at bat. Aa- ron Warren had a big night at the plate with a triple and two singles while Krystal Bartley col- lected three hits and Ja- mie Gimblett two doubles. Bradley Damont led the defence with his strongest game of the season. Bradley Sutcliffe led Mann's with four singles while Andrew Hudson had two doubles and a home run. Krystin Bronson had three hits including a triple, while the defence was led by Tim Martyn and Krystin Bronson. Lyndsay Sweetman pitched well in her mound debut for Mann's. A big thank you to Swain's call-up Katie Van- strien who had two dou- bles and Mann's call-up Hayley Campbell who had a single. Antrim House 9 Martyn's 6 Antrim's ended their mid-season slump and won 9-6 in a well-played game. Offensively a triple by Josh Ferguson and a double by Emma Marshall were the key hits while Ryan Nesbitt continued his strong play at catcher. Other fine defensive plays were turned in by Amanda Lowe, Stefanie Kingswell and mite call-up Mitch Truax. Mathew Welk had a triple for Martyn's while Mike Sonne and Evan Jones chipped in with sin- gles. Senior Don Frew 15 Marlin Travel 8 Strong games by April and John Vanstrien, clutch hits from Colin Manns and the great de- fensive play of Darryl Keeler led the Frew team to their fifth win. Aiding the Marlin cause was the hitting of Jamie Budge, Jason Price and Jenn Bell while Chris Bronson pitched well. Don Frew 23 Hawkeyes 6 The Frew crew put the offence into high gear and upped their season record to .500. Defensively, John Vanstrien's pitching, Troy Mappins' play at shortstop and strong catching by Matt Elliott paced the team to victory. Offensive- ly, Stephanie Shortridge reached base four times and Richard Frew had a good night of hitting. The Hawkeyes contin- ued to be led by the strong play of Pam Goble and Josh Martyn. Marlin Travel 12 Campbell's12 In a very well-played game, Marlin Travel found the formula and earned a tie with Camp- bell's strong pitching by Chris Bronson, Jason Price and Jamie Budge and the strong back catch- ing of John Burnett led Marlin's to the tie. Jamie Budge also had a triple while Jenn Bell and Jesse McKendry played strong defensive games. Deryk Campbell's strong pitching saved the tie while his home run and triple helped the offence. Ryan Whittick continued to hit well collecting two triples. Defensively, strong games were turned in by Chad Hobbs, Came- ron Vernest, Sean Warren and Elisha James. Baseball M&MMeats13 Asselstine's Yamaha Mosquito 6 The boys continue to im- prove in their new league and the coaches are hop- ing for the peak perfor- mance to start right around tournament time. Jesse Mullins only al- lowed one hit in his two in- nings pitched, while Ryan Elliott allowed one hit dur- ing his mound stint. Bradley Sutcliffe had two RBIs with a double to lead the offence. Singles from Dave Young, Darryl McClurg and doubles from Wyatt Morrison and John Chray- pek capped off a nice game. Much improved pitch- ing from IGA makes this division a tight one. Good game, guys. Peewee July 25 Causeway Service Cougars 8 Van Camp Contracting 3 The pitching staff for both teams came loaded for bear this game, folks. Van Camp pitchers struck out seven Cougar batters and the Cougar staff stopped 10 batters at the plate. However, Van Camp managed to make 1t to first on balls only twice to the Cougars' seven base on balls. Cougar runners then proceeded to steal on 17 occasions and Rob Wol- ters, along with Warren Boud "eau stole from third for much-needed runs. Rob Wolters opened the pitching for the Cougars by striking out five of nine batters and holding Van Camp scoreless. At the plate, McClurg and Wonacott both scored doubles accounting for RBIs, and singles. Singles - Brown with two, Bou- dreau and Deeth with one each. Danny Deeth made his first appearance on the mound for the Cougars to close, to strike out one and account for two infield outs and grabbed a single with his bat while he was at it. This first-time pitch- er will be heard from again.
