Feb. 2 1s Groundhog Day, a day. when the comings and goings of groundhogs are supposed to determine an early or late spring. According to tradi- tion if it sees its shadow, the groundhog returns to its hole for six more weeks of winter! (Thoughts) Now! Live every moment as it comes, Take what it brings to you; Be happy with the things you have : Each day your whole life through. Take every step, one at a time, And make the most of it, Then, looking back - don't wish that you Could changeit just a bit. Make every hour that you spend Mean just a little more; So all the ones that lie ahead Will be worth waiting for. And don't put off those "little things" Try to fit them in somehow; For the time when you'll en- Joy them most Is not some day" - but now. Nestleton United Church On Sunday, Jan. 28, fourth Sunday after Epiphany, with a fair attendance, with Ar- lene Malcolm greeting at the door, Rev. David Shearman opened the service with the approach followed with "Call to worship" with Katie Mairs playing the piano for the ser- vice. Arlene Malcolm was the scripture reader from Micah 6: 1-8 and responsive reading -Psalm 15, led by Rev. Shear- man. Rev. David's sermon theme "I Have A Bone to Pick With You." God wants us to do things e.g. "Justice, Love, Kindness, walk humbly with God is the foundation of our Faith." With Carol Mairs at the pi- ano the Nestleton trio - Ka- tie, Shirley and Regenia sang nicely "Shepherd of Love - His Name is Wonderful." Donology by Arlene Mal- colm and Carol Hill. Service closed with prayer, hymn, benediction and singing, "Go Now In Peace," a fine mes- sage for all to take home! ~~ Family News Pleased as punch to have son Alan and Eleanor Caw- ker of Oshawa just recently and granddaughter cute lit- tle Chelsea Bond Birnie for a visit. Nestleton Presbyterian Church The 11 a.m. service in Nes- tleton Presbyterian Church was conducted by Rev. Wm. Fairley. Ushers were Gra- ham Ham and Oliver Rohrer and Joyce Taylor was organ- ist. Dorothy Lee taught the Sunday School. Responsive Psalm readin was No. 15 and scripture readings were Micah 6, and St. Matthew 8. Rev. Fairley spoke of the need of places of religion, in a society of changing ideas and values. We look to the church for spiritual renewal - and we should honor thou that trust in God - "Do justly, love mer- cy and walk humbly with God." An excellent attendance at the service, and a time of fel- lowship followed the service. Blue Ray On a lovely winter's night, Blue Ray Chapter held their January meeting, having missed December meeting due to a snowstorm. The Wor- thy Matron, May Moffatt, welcomed everyone especial- ly the brothers as this was their night. Tributes were paid to them for all their help in our vari- ous activities. We were re- minded of the Valentine luncheon-on Friday, Feb. 2 at the Masonic Hall. The joint venture with the Masons re the Sunday brunch every third Sunday is continuing with a change in menu. The one on Jan. 21 was very successful. Our District Deputy Grand Matron spoke briefly bringing a meaningful message. After meeting, all assem- bled in lower hall for a deli- cious lunch of soup, bread and squares convened by the brothers. See you Feb. 8 for our Valentine's party. Yuk Yuks at hall Apr. 6 aeésarea Albert Putsey I am glad to report Ab Selby will be coming home from the hospital this Tuesday, Jan. 30. Also glad to report Joan Pot- tery returned home today, Sun- day, Jan. 28, also from the hos- pital. One has to be very careful what one says to strangers or others as a matter of fact. I re- call two people meeting in Flori- da, one from London, Ontario and the other from Wabash, In- diana. As their holiday pro- gressed they became better ac- quainted and dined together. The one from London told about the great cottage they had at Caesarea on Putsey Drive and etc. The other asked if they knew Albert and Eileen Putsey. You see, the one was my new neighbour at that time and the other an engineer I worked with in one of the plants I serviced years before. Sunday, Jan. 28 we were in- vited to our former bank man- agers' 90th birthday party in Bramalea. When there, we met some people by the name of Owen and their son lives on Scugog Island. We also met a' woman from Sarnia, Ontario by the name of Eleanor Middleton, who was a sister of the late Wil- fred Vine. These people met the host under different circum- stances and in different loca- tions and then us meeting them this way. Strange but true. Last week I wrote, "I thought some of our ice hut owners would have quite a time getting their huts off the lake by the end of Feb. due to them being frozen in". Saturday night, Jan. 27 I had a report from Gord John- ston that he saw at least four huts blowing down the lake due to the gale winds. Maybe there were late arrivals on the lake I don't know. Coming Events The Firefighters Association are holding a Yuk Yuks night at Nestleton Hall April 6 and tick- ets will be available shortly. Re- member their New Years Party _ tickets were sold out weeks be- fore New Years. Saying of the Week Friendship is like a silver tea pot. Sometimes it's put away longer than we realize and it be- comes tarnished. But when we polishit, itis still like new. Eileen Tulin Joke of the Week An artist asked the gallery owner if anvone had shown in- 'terest in his paintings. "I've got good news and bad news" she said. "The good news is that some guy inquired about your work and wondered if it would appreciate in value after you die. When I told him it would, he bought all fifteen of your paint- ings. The bad news is, the guy was your doctor." I urge everyone who owns property or a mortgage to read Alan Silverstein's article of the Toronto Star for Saturday, Jan. 27 which appeared in the home section. Take an active part, should local meetings be held and write to your local M.P.P. I know of one lot in Cartwright Township where two people paid taxes on the same lot for a number of years before provin- cial assessment was adopted. Now the province will no doubt 'make some serious errors, should there not be changes made. This could mean your wife or husband could up and sell your joint assets without your signature.
