Durham Regional Police said a 1983 Oldsmobile was being driven north on the road around 1:40 a.m. when it went out of control on a patch of black ice just north of Chandler Dr., left the roadway, and slammed into a hydro pole. The driver, 22-year-old Mark Timmons of Fralick's Beach, sustained facial lacerations and injuries to his head, police said. a passenger, Aaron Cochrane, 23, of Port Perry, suffered a smashed cheekbone and a leg injury. Freezing rain contributed to hazardous road con- ditions at the time of the accident, police said, adding no charges would be laid. More snowmobile arrests Police in Port have made more arrests in connec- tion with the theft of snowmobiles. Police said that two people -- a young offender from Port Perry, and a 21-year-old Uxbridge man -- were found in possession of a stolen machine in the Port Perry vicinity last Wednesday (Feb. 21). Police believe another machine was stripped for parts, and torched. The young offender has been charged with two counts of possession of stolen property over $5,000: the Uxbridge man faces one count of possession of stolen property over $5,000. Meanwhile, a 1994 Artic Cat machine was stolen from a Davidge Dr. residence during the early-morn- ing hours Feb. 21, police said. Stolen vehicle torched Police say a van that was stolen from Oshawa was abandoned and burned at a Scugog residence this weekend. The 1988 Chev van was left in a residential drive- way on Line 8 and set ablaze around midnight Sunday, police said. Counterfeit bill turns up Police said a woman reported a counterfeit $10 bill last week. She apparently attempted to make a purchase with the sawbuck during the day last Tuesday (Feb. 20), but a clerk noticed it was fake. A check with a local bank confirmed the bill was a counterfeit, police said. Many people have asked me lately, "should I buy GICs or Mutual Funds?" And my reply is always the same. Both!
