Guardian Playoff Bound The Guardian Tween "C" girls fin- ished the regular season on a winning note. Their final two years were a home and away series against Ennismore. On Thursday night we headed for En- nismore for a 7 p.m. encounter. This game along with the rematch later would be important in determining the final standings. After the long drive Port came out fired up and scored in the first minute on a goal by Shannon as- sists to Sheena and Heather. Less than a minute later Shannon scored her sec- ond. Two minutes later Sarah scored from Alaina B. The Tweens poured on the pressure and were rewarded for their efforts. At the 10 mark Sheena got one from Jessi- ca and Shannon. Ennismore finally broke on to the sco- resheet but quickly we had another in the net by Alaina B., unassisted. Two minutes later the girls got two quick ones by Heather and Jessica, before the period was over Sarah scored another from Alaina B. First period ended 8 3. In the second Port coasted and Ennis- more scored three more while Sarah re- plied, from Kelly for the Tweens. Final 9-6. In the second meeting of these teams 'the visitors were a different team and came out determined. They scored early into the first but Sarah tied it up, assist to Alaina B. They went ahead but we tied it again before the end of the first period. Scoring for Port was Kelly from Sarah and it was clear that this was anybody's game. In the second the Guardian Tweens had numerous scoring chances but couldn't find the mesh. At 12:16 Shan- non rushed in off wing and pocketed one to give us the lead, assist to Alaina B. With less than four minutes left the vis- itors tied it up but our girls rose to the occasion and managed two more goals by Shannon and Sarah, assists to Sarah and Alaina B. Final 5-3. Now we wait for the final standings to see who we play in the first round possi- ble teams could be Ajax 1, Markham or Ennismore. Good luck girls. Bruins/Swampers in final The first round of best of five series is now complete with two very entertain- Ing overtime affairs to de- termine who was going on to the final. In the first semi the Homelife Swampers saw Jason Price score their first of this game with 19 seconds left on the clock in the opening period. The second half saw the Swampers stake a two goal lead early in the frame with Mike Mole scoring from Brian Robin- son. It looked as though Trader Sam's were done for the season until with Just over four minutes in regulation time, Charlie Dennis connected from Gene Woodrow to pull them within one. Trader's forced the issue as they tied the score with 2:56 left on the clock when Sean Piels set up Jason Lee. Regulation time saw the two teams deadlocked at two apiece and it was on to the three minute total It ap- peared that this game was going to go an additional sudden death period, when with 36 seconds to go in the period it was Mole and Robinson hook- ing up again to give the Swampers the 3-2 win. In the final game of the day it was the Blackstock Brewers home to the Brooklin Bruins with the Bruins up by 'a game. Blackstock drew first blood as Tom Wotten net- ted one with the aid of Al Bouwmeester and Ron Wagg. Brooklin answered this one late in the open- ing period when Nick Att- wood set up Rob Kivell. Again Blackstock pulled ahead with Wotten notch- ing his second from Ron Short and Wagg with 1:30 to play in the first. The Bruins would not die and tied it late in the second 'half with Attwood scoring from Luc Collard. With this score tied at two both squads got ready for the total goals overtime. The Bruins got the first one with Attwood scoring his second this time with help from his brother Ron. Wot- ten answered back with his third of the game giv- ing him the natural hat- trick. This game also looked like sudden death overtime but with five sec- onds to go and on a power- play the Bruins emerged the victors with Attwood getting his fourth point of the game assisting Wayne Tate's counter. The Framer's Gallery evened up their series against the Stouffville Scorpions on the strength of a 3-0 shutout. Rich Brough potted the first one from Peter Kreisten- sen and Scott McLeod five minutes into the game. This was followed up with McLeod scoring one of his own with help from Brian Kerry to give the Framer's a two goal lead at the end of the first period. From the opening faceoff in the second half they stormed down into the Scorpion's zone resulting in a Steve Kristensen goal with Cory Dowson drawing the as- sist. Next Sunday will see the final game between the Framer's Gallery and the Scorpions go at 3:30 to be followed by the first game of the league finals at 4:30 between the Bruins and the Swampers who were tied at the end of the season and Brooklin being awarded first on goals for and against in head to head play so it should be a good series to watch. Pearce Auction Novice play in Lions tournament Pearce Auction Novice spent the latter part of their first week of holidays participating at the Oshawa Lions Tourna- ment. The Red Wings were our first challengers Thursday morning and we weren't quite awake yet as they scored -early. Port Perry fought back as Ash- ley Lucas scored from Ty-- son Savage. The Red Wings scored once again and held on despite Pearce Auctions many chances. Michael Lycett was our most deserved game M.V.P. That night we chal- lenged the Blackhawks. Port Perry scored late in the first period to take the lead as Keenan Geer drove in a centering pass from Danny Halward. It wasn't until midway through the third frame when Port Perry got their insurance marker. Danny Halward scored on a rebound from Ashley Lucas and Cassidy Weber. Then Kyle Mullins got our third goal with as- sists from Jeff Tomcheski and Shane Jeffrey. The highlight of our scoring frenzy came in the last minute as Mighty Mouse Kory Bauer picked the top corner, assisted by Mi- chael Lycett. Keenan was our hard-working M.V.P. Friday morning we met Port Hope. They blanked us 2-0 as they got the bounces and we couldn't buy a goal. Nelson Lang- maid and Matthew Roth had some close chances. Kyle Mullins was honored asour M.V.P. Saturday morning we met a strong team from Nepean. Pearce Auction played their best game of the tournament and put up a good fight. Nepean managed just the one goal as Leo Taillon got a piece of it but couldn't find the handle. We had our occa- sional offensive opportuni- ty but couldn't score. Tay- lor Churchill earned M.V.P. as he played a good strong defensive game. Pearce Auction compet- ed well during the tourna- ment and each game could have went either way. It was entertaining hockey put on by this Port Perry team. Leo Taillon played well solo and received a nice trophy for his shut. out in the Blackhawks game. Congratulations to Derek Goreski and Ashley Lucas who were selected to the allstar team. Come support our Nov- ice Tournament Saturday, March 23 at the Port Perry Arena. in five games.
