20- PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, April 23, 1996 "Scugog's Community Newspaper of Choice" Ass'n urges discussion Talking to your family and loved ones about your decision to donate your organs is a conversation that will save lives, says Janet Georgieff, Executive Director, The Lung Association Durham Region. National Organ Donor Awareness Week runs April 21 through April 27, and April 25 has been designated as National Organ Donation Discussion Day, a day for sitting down with your loved ones and specifying your views regarding organ donation. "Discussion your wishes about organ donation with your family is vital," said Ms. Georgieff. "It will ensure that even when faced with the shock of your loss, they can follow your wishes to donate your organs and give their consent," added Mrs. Georgieft. As of Dec. 31, 1995, there were 2,592 people across Canada waiting for a transplant. Of these, 181 people were waiting for a single or double lung transplant. Each year, among 6,000 Canadians who die and have signed an organ donation card, only 400 provide organs and tissue for transplantation because the families have denied consent. Through public donations, The Lung Association works to prevent and treat lung disease, including emphysema, cancer and asthma. For further info on lung health, call The Lung Association Durham Region at 436-1046. oS SON SY, WN GS I SY YOUR PONTIAC 5-speed manual transmission, 4-wheel ABS, driver's side cloth seats, chrome plated wheels, power steering, tinted glass, all steel 8 ft. cargo box, intermittent wipers, tinted glass, all steel 6 5 ft 200 HP Vortec 4300 V6 SFI engine, air bag, side-guard door beams, AM/FM stereo, underrail boxliner Two thieves robbed restaurant Crime Stoppers and Durham Regional Police are asking for the public's assistance in solving a rob- bery that occurred in Oshawa ondan. 20.
