If you see something in the catalogue you wish to check out of the library us- ers can reserve items by placing a hold on the book. The system will ask for your library card bar code number and your PIN number, usually your home telephone number. Remote access also al- lows users to review their - patron record using the same procedures. The library implement- ed the system last month and 63 calls have been dialed into the library in the last month, according to. chief librarian Tom Bonnano. He expects as the word 'gets around more and more people will be calling the number, although he has no specific expecta- tions of usage. Mr. Bonnano said there are a number of libraries already using the system and he felt it was a good way to allow 24-hour ac- cess to the local resources. The library materials will likely be heading to the Internet next year and there are many more items to come in the fu- ture, he said. While searching the li- ~brary's resources, comput- er users can also view a Community Resource In- dex, listing a number of events in Scugog Town- ship. In co-operation with the Scugog Chamber of Com- merce, upcoming events are listed on the comput- er, including dates, times and phone numbers for upcoming events. It is a means of free ad- vertising for anyone hav- ing an event in Scugog, where they can reach the computer users, Mr. Bon- nano said. -
