The Merchants took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning but then Newmar- ket tied the game in the: second, took a three run lead in the third and ex- tended it to a four run lead in the fourth. Finally in the bottom half of the fourth inning down to the tune of 5-1 the Merchants started their comeback. They picked up three runs in the fourth and two more in the fifth to take a 6-5 lead. Newmarket once again took the lead as they picked up two runs in the sixth inning to make it now 7-6 in their favor. Af- ter holding Newmarket off the scoresheet it came to the bottom of the seventh {inning with the Mer- chants needing axun to tie and two to win. Glen Espie started it off getting on with good hustle forcing a Newmarket error. The Merchants next batter struck out but then Ian Shrigley followed up with a walk. Now with the tying and go ahead runs on base up stepped Jason Best and he promptly de- livered in the clutch with a hard double scoring one run to tie the game and ad- vancing Shrigley to third. ~ After a fly ball for the sec- ond out the dramatics came as Shrigley stole home on a pass ball.
