"A Family Tradition fcr 130 Years" Cannington tourney drains supply of broomball teams Due to most of the players being involved in the Cannington Tourna- ment over the weekend there were a number of- players missing and all three games were of the low scoring variety due to the number of weary bod- 1es. Contre ivan eo ts Framer's Gallery on their 'B' Championship in that tournament. The Brooklin Bruins again scrambled to the ice Novices in tournament The Compton Novice Se- lect team travelled to War- saw (Ontario) just north east of Peterborough to represent Port Perry in an eight team competition. The first game against Lakefield started off real quick with Port Perry Compton scoring at 9:33. It was a lone goal by Glen Powell. Then the Lake- field team came on strong scoring three in the second period and one more in the third. Our second game was truly a spectators game. Port Perry Compton played against Clarington and Clarington scored first at 7:51 of the first pe- riod. Justin Lidston from Chris Marchant. The play was end to end with both teams putting on a show of action around the nets and the defense was amazing. The second period was scoreless and with only 3:52 remaining in the third period Brent Henry scored from Jeff Durward and Cam O'Connor to tie the game for Port Perry. The play was very exciting as the teams and fans cheered every rush up the ice. It wasn't until Keith Forbes made a dash for the Clarington goal with two defenders chasing him that he scored to win the game for Port Perry Compton. No surprise he also got the most out- standing player of the just enough so as not to forfeit the game, again due to most of the squad play- ing for their Oshawa team in Cannington and it paid off as they dumped the Gallery 2-1. Wayne Tate pulled further ahead in the scoring race with both Bruin goals. He was set u on the first one by Mar Mason, who usually coach- es and was pressed into service. The second marker was assisted by Nick Attwood. The Framer's had led this game early in the opening period with Stephen Kris- tensen connecting from brother Eric for a short lived lead. Trader Sam's held off the Raven's with a 2-0 shutout for goaltender Jeff Nanson, his first of the year. The Raven's were also short-handed as they could only manage to ice one complete line. The first Trader's goal came with just five seconds showing on the clock to play in the opening period with Ken St. Amant set- ting up Larry Maarse. Registéred M Craig Leask netted the fi- nal goal four minutes into the second with help from Gene Woodrow and Tony Dennis. © The final game of the day had the Blackstock Brewers and the Homelife B&R Swampers battle toa 1-1 draw, through regula- tion time and a three min- ute overtime . period. Blackstock drew first blood with Ron Short fir- ing in a pass from Tom Wotten with 1:24 to play in the opening frame. This. was met by the Swampers "with one of their own 22 seconds later as Mike Mitchell put one in from Mike Butt in the overtime neither team had any good opportunities to salt the win away as both played defensive in the neutral ice area.
